Where it mattered most, Trump’s Texas endorsement didn’t get the job done
Washington Post ^ | Mar 2, 2022 | Philip Bump

It did not take long for Donald Trump to start bragging.

Less than three hours after polls closed in Texas, Trump’s political action committee released a statement from the former president.

“All 33 candidates that were Trump endorsed have either won their primary election or are substantially leading in the case of a runoff,” it read. “Governor Abbott and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick have won in a landslide.” Then, an incongruous “thank you,” before he offered his congratulations to the winners.....

You’ll notice a few things off the bat. The first is that most of the candidates being endorsed were incumbents — 25 of the 33. In other words, most of the candidates Trump endorsed would have probably been favored anyway, given the advantages that accompany incumbency. You can see that more than half of the candidates endorsed by Trump were incumbents who earned more than 60 percent of the vote, generally a sign that the opposition they faced was not particularly robust. Seven of his endorsees were House incumbents who didn’t face opponents, a group for which Trump doesn’t really deserve credit.

If he wants to count those in his total then he actually went 33 for 34. After all, in October, Trump lashed out at state House speaker Dade Phelan (R) for not rolling over on election fraud claims. He pledged that he would target Phelan in the primary — but Phelan ran unopposed and won with 100 percent of the vote.

That doesn’t answer Tge question at all.

I hear from people all the time. They want West. Who is he? What has he done? He talks. He goes on all the shows and talks. People don’t think. They don’t wonder what he would do in the governor’s seat with all the pressure from everyone wanting Texas blue, the Bushes, the open border faction.

People say I don’t like this, throw them out bring in someone who talks a lot I don’t care if he’s done nothing. Paxton is under investigation he must be bad he is a RINO

How is Paxton a RINO? What’s he under investigation for?

Where did gohmert come from? How is he not a RINO? What’s he done?

It’s all a game is not an answer.

People love to pile on Trump and anyone else Republican who is not perfect. Try comparing Paxton to Tge NY attorney General. Take a look at what’s going on there.

Gohmert fears that the Dems in position of power in Texas will bring charges against Paxton which will cause him to lose in the final election.
He stepped in with hopes of a run off and he says he is trying to save Texas. I do not know but do a little more research if you are a Texan.

This guy has such a weak argument I am surprised he put it in print. It’s like a guy with a micro-sized penis exposing himself.

But if incumbents did not benefit from Trump’s endorsement, what about all the incumbent leftists that suddenly decided to “retire” before 11/22?

Well he came in fourth. Impressive? Not even going to be in congress anymore after January. Is that all worth it?

the “job’s not done” until the Uniparty, RINO’s, and Deep State are totally exposed and neutralized.

* * *

Amen to that. And what about the influence Trump gains on all the people he endorsed? That’s significant.

Can a guy go to Mar-a-Lago, ask for Trump’s endorsement, and NOT have a favor to give back to Trump.

Trump’s lining up a legion of supporters that will push his legislation and cut useless regulations when he’s back in office. Smart. Thinking way ahead of everyone. My President.

All 33 of Trump's endorsed candidates won, no one stepped forward to oppose Phelan -- but the fight for speaker is yet to come.

Those are fighting words in the Texas 1st district where I live. ;)

I don’t think you can find a more conservative voting record than Louis Gohmert’s. He is about to reach what he thinks should be a term limit in the house. Ted Cruz took the AG’s office into the Senate; I think Gohmert had the same idea. Or maybe a later run for Governor.

He is one of the Great Guys.

You’d have to do more than that emotional appeal to convince me of that

Gohmert just took 17 pts away from AG Paxton by slinging mud. He forced him into a runoff with a Bush. For what reason. It was a race he had no hope of winning. Running against an incumbent endorsed by Trump

You’re saying he did it for personal ambition comparing the move to that of Cruz?

What good did he do?

I would have thought I would have voted for Louie if he ever ran statewide, but not in the attorney general’s race of 2022. Had Louie not run, Paxton would already be the nominee, and there would have been no need to face a well-funded Bush campaign. In a low turnout on May 24, anything can happen. GWB knows that too.
