A tractor-trailer carrying US mail plummeted off a bridge and into the icy Charles River near Boston Saturday morning, but the driver miraculously survived after he sought refuge atop the truck and yelled to first responders that he couldn't swim.

What damaged the top of the truck?The tops of many trailers these days are often a lightweight semi-transparent material to save weight and cost of construction. I'm guessing the impact with the bridge dislodged it and the wind resistance rolled it up.
