The Ukrainian military has released a statement thanking a marine for allegedly sacrificing himself in order to demolish a bridge that would allow Russian tanks to advance.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine released the statement Friday via social media, reporting that Vitaliy Volodymyrovych Skakun, a battalion engineer, had voluntarily undertaken a mission to mine out the support structure of the Genichesky Bridge near the Kyiv before Russian forces could cross it. Shakun did not have time to flee the blast zone before detonating the explosives, and informed his battalion that he would be blowing it up regardless.

Sounds like the Ukrainians missed Patton’s halftime speech...

That was actually the pre-game speech.
Now immortal to all demolitioneers.
Why, yes, yes it was. Thanks!
Brave but begs the question why weren’t explosives at least placed last week? In war oversights are paid for in blood. Imagine for patriotic Ukrainians, unlike globalist Democrats, sabotaging your own infrastructure is a difficult emotional task.
The story came from a Twitter account here:

you can see the happy face of the alleged hero.
myths of heroes are common tools in wartime propaganda.. but usually they are at least somewhat plausible.
Greater love hath no man.......
Well, because this was reported on Fox, standby for the FR contingent that believes all news is propaganda now.
Except that Horatius was able to swim to safety.
“why weren’t explosives at least placed last week?”
I thought the same thing on viewing a Russian armored column crossing an lengthy, hi-rise bridge yesterday.
It would appear that ol’ Vlad, for now, has greatly under estimated the Ukrainians.
If this fails, he’s done. No más for him. He has backed himself into a corner
A extraordinary act of courage, and to be honored when one is doing so justly, and is not the same thing as Islamic suicide bombers (Inc.). In the former case the soldier did not intend to die, nor targeting innocent persons, but was in a situation in which his own death was required in order to combat evil.
Because they didn’t have you there, telling Zelensky and his military commanders what to do. That’s why.
Same regarding handing out small arms at the last moment without significant training, organization or clear purpose. Just going to likely get a lot of civilians killed.
Same reason they didn’t mobilize until yesterday?
That was my first thought. Who was in charge of preparations? It seems a no-brainer to prepare to slow any Russian advance.
I really don’t know how competent the Ukraine’s military is. But if the civilian govt is as corrupt and incompetent as it appears to be I wouldn’t expect the military to be all that competent either. Corrupt govts pick “politically reliable” (corrupt) people to run their militaries.
Then again Russian military intelligence probably spent the last 3 months deciphering Ukraine military codes and learned how to tap into their command communications. They probably made a concerted effort to countermand any orders that were given to mine or destroy those key bridges.
During the massive Confederate artillery bombardment that preceded the infantry assault, Hancock was prominent on horseback, reviewing and encouraging his troops. When one of his subordinates protested, "General, the corps commander ought not to risk his life that way," Hancock is said to have replied, "There are times when a corps commander's life does not count."
