I believe Putin even said once that L’viv and the Western areas of Ukraine should basically break off. I think he even joked that he would let the Poles have it. Not sure if he still feels that way now.

If Poland is just now waking up, I am sad for them. I’m not saying Russia intends to recreate the old soviet block in short order, but as they learned in 1939, you don’t react to threats, you anticipate them.
