Watching with interest. Putin seems to be having his way so far. Europe will likely do nothing that matters, Biden’s sanctions were expected and Putin prepared for those.

Donbas describes a region, not a political subdivision, and those two "tiny places" are the first (Donetsk) and seventh (Luhansk) most populous of Ukraine's 24 oblasts, or provinces. Both have voted to secede from Ukraine, and each has been self-governed since 2014, while under constant siege by the Ukrainian Army. Many citizens of these two oblasts have fled across their Russian borders to escape regular shelling by the Obama-installed Kiev regime.
It’s frankly none of Russia’s business, what a sovereign nation does.
That's a bold claim from Americans like us -- who have repeatedly invaded our neighbors and warded off rivals to achieve our own security goals. Since 1823 we have enforced this "Monroe Doctrine" to secure our surrounding region from outside interference. Spheres of influence are facts of life, and hostile outsiders venture into them at their own risk.

The two Donetsk and Luhansk are not political subdivisions, the political subdivision has been polled repeatedly and they vote both to not align with Russia and to stay part of Ukraine.
Any illegal referendum that the Russians host are illegal and irrelevant. They have to operate under official Ukraine election laws.
The Soviets/Russians lost the Cold War. Every country is their enslaved state to Russia, has bolted away from Russia. That voting by your feet tells you what Russia is suspected of and is.
Draft them and send to the front lines. Set up machine guns behind them and order them to attack and capture rifles from the enemy.
