Krystal Guerra’s Miami apartment has a tiny kitchen, cracked tiles, warped cabinets, no dishwasher and hardly any storage space.
But Guerra was fine with the apartment’s shortcomings. It was all part of being a 32-year-old graduate student in South Florida, she reasoned, and she was happy to live there for a few more years as she finished her marketing degree.
That was until a new owner bought the property and told her he was raising the rent from $1,550 to $1,950, a 26% increase that Guerra said meant her rent would account for the majority of her take-home pay from the University of Miami.
“I thought that was insane,” said Guerra, who decided to move out. “Am I supposed to stop paying for everything else I have going on in my life just so I can pay rent? That’s unsustainable.”
Guerra is hardly alone. Rents have exploded across the country, causing many to dig deep into their savings, downsize to subpar units or fall behind on payments and risk eviction now that a federal moratorium has ended.
Doesn’t matter what the rent is if you aren’t allowed to evict for non-payment.
Biden’s solution to high rent and homelessness: bring in 3 million illegal aliens to compete for entry-level housing.
Yep, can’t evict is kind of like price fixing, drives up costs with the hope those who will still pay will just pay more.
Perfectly predictable.
Good! Let the people understand what they asked for.
Bingo. Class warfare is desired. The Democrat elite will urge on "sides" and then say "let's you and them fight." Old game revisited.
Exactly.
Where to stash these millions of extraneous people?
My son owns a rental property, and his church (Lutheran) is looking to settle a couple hundreds Afghan refugees in and around Harrisburg, PA.
FedGov is offering $1200 per month per family in rent.
Very attractive to landlords.
A steady income stream, and you really don’t have to do much maintenance.
The usual rent assistance to homegrown welfare folks is $800 a month.
It’s so people will demand rent subsidies.
Landlords haven’t been paid in two years so they have to make it up with higher rents. Of course, when landlords get caught up, those high rents aren’t going to come down.
Never. He has 3 or 4, former Blackrock executives working in his administration. Blackrock is one of the funds that have been snatching up homes all over the country and making them all rentals. Never ending supply of money and you can’t do anything about it.
Years ago, I was a security contractor in Iraq, for the US government. All the companies were privately owned. There were quite a few, fly by night ones, but if you got in with one of the big ones, you were good to go. Good money. Stable work. Decent facilities and they treated you well.
Then the equity firms and hedge funds started buying everything up. Making offers no one could refuse. As you can imagine, the first thing these firms do is start cutting to figure out where they can cut overhead, still charge the same and make more money. And they get to tap into government contracts, worth billions in an industry not one of them understands and start making money. And when things get tight or the talent pool starts to get a little shallow, they run to the government and beg for help. When they do that, they say that the standards have to be changed(lowered) because they can’t find anymore qualified people(at the price they’re willing to pay).
Anywho...as usual there’s a simple fix, but the puppets in government, at every level, will never allow it. They’re too busy making money and screwing the people over.
That's exactly what all Democrat/RINO politicians want. They won't be honest about it and come clean ... but it's what they want. Higher and higher inflation, cheaper and cheaper dollars, making the population more and more desperate, begging those Democrat/RINO politicians for more and more government "help." And of course, the Democrat/RINO politicans will gladly respond by promising to do even more wasteful, out-of-control spending to "help" the population (but only if you reelect them). In politics, everything is always all about getting reelected and maintaining a stranglehold on political power. I think almost everyone on this forum knows all of this very well so this is just intended for the rare few who still aren't fully aware of it.
It's just what Democrat/RINO politicians do. It's what they always do and will always do in the future ... thus "Rents reaching 'insane' levels across the country with no end in sight" ...
Lots of little landlords decided they wanted out.
This is what happens when everything is owned by the big boys.
Enjoy.
This is an important issue which is part of the global reset.
For this moment now, this is later but not too long out.
“So, when is Biden going to step in and take over properties so everyone will have a place to live?” That happens and we’re into Dr. Zhivago territory.
“””So, when is Biden going to step in and take over properties so everyone will have a place to live?”””
The 32 year old snowflake mentioned in this story probably wants Biden to forgive her $300,000 student loan first.
And then our dear snowflake wants Biden to build a bunch of Section 8 apartments.
You know, it’s that equity thing we deplorables just need to quit fighting and embrace.
obviously these people are living in areas they can no longer afford and need to move to somewhere more affordable outside of the large city.
Is it his church or the refugee resettlement agency, Lutheran Services, that are wanting the house? If I’m not mistaken, the refugee resettlement companies use the “church” names but aren’t actually affiliated with the churches. I guess it’s a way to make themselves sound like something they’re not.
Also, I wonder if someone could clarify something for me. When a refugee is settled in the US, initially the federal government picks up the tab for everything. And they get a lot. I thought that there’s some type of sunset clause on that and after a few years the bills are then paid for by the state. I realize at the end of the day it’s the taxpayer, paying the bill, but when the state starts picking up the tab is when property taxes start going up and up.
IIRC, that was the basis for the lawsuit the Tennessee legislature filed, and eventually lost, against the feds for Tennessee having to pick up the Medicaid/Medicare bills incurred by the muslim refugees that have been settled in the state. The legislature argued that they didn’t ask for or want them, so they shouldn’t be forced to pay for them. Sadly, after years of back and forth, the Legislature finally lost. The legislature was paying for a private law firm to represent Tennessee. So, the final judge comes out and tosses the suit because: since the Governor and AG didn’t sign on, support and defend the suit, the Legislature had no STANDING.
And now the people of Tennessee are stuck paying those bills.
