The Russian military on Friday announced massive drills of its strategic nuclear forces, a stark reminder of the country’s nuclear might amid Western fears that Moscow might be preparing to invade Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will personally oversee Saturday’s exercise, which will involve multiple practice launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles and cruise missiles, the Defense Ministry said.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Putin would observe the drills from the Defense Ministry’s situation room and supervise the practice missile launches himself.

It is Putin tweaking the west. He has taken the measure of our current leaders and has correctly found them lacking.

Putin must thank the devil for Biden each and every day.

I don’t think Putin could ever imagine this much fun.

Yep, nothing subtle about nukes.

Its hard to believe that a backwater country that few people could find on a map could trigger something awful.

Russia will not give in on the Ukraine and will go nuclear if they deem necessary. All this threatening of Russia over the Ukraine is insane.

After the Olympics are over Brandon will soon be dealing with two crises — in different parts of the world.

I don’t think he’s physically or mentally up to dealing with it.

What has this country done to itself?

I think the bottom line is that Putin and Xi recognize the gift horse that has come along with Brandon’s election. They know epic weakness and ineptitude when they see it.

They will not let this rare and unique opportunity pass by without taking full advantage of it.

Powerful leaders exploit moments of weakness.

That’s true. But weak people are the most dangerous. I think that going to nuclear gamesmanship is a really stupid move by Putin.

WWI started with a spot of trouble in Serbia.

I think the bottom line is that Putin and Xi recognize the gift horse that has come along with Brandon’s establishment (s)election.

Fixed it for you. Stolen elections have consequences.

I get what you’re saying and it could backfire on him.

But...Russia views border security from a historical perspective. Horrific costly invasions are never far from their minds so we need to appreciate just how sensitive they are about a buffer zone given their historical experiences.

We would have a totally different attitude about our border security had we been invaded multiple times by land routes.

It may be an unwise move by Putin but I don’t doubt for a moment that he see’s an expanding NATO as an existential threat.
