Free speech social media network Gab has announced the launch of a “Parallel Economy Fund” to back tech startups and other ventures that reject the surveillance economy and leftist values of the Silicon Valley Masters of the Universe.
Gab announced in a recent blog post that the company is furthering its efforts to create a parallel economy to offer people a choice to engage with tech companies that share their values. Gab is putting its money where its mouth is in response to the argument that if conservatives don’t like the censorship and snooping of the overwhelmingly leftist Big Tech companies, they should build an alternative.

Until recently, there have been very few alt-tech companies with conservative-friendly values. Gab itself has previously been blacklisted by its own web host and payment processors but has since built its own infrastructure in order to operate without fear of censorship.
Now, Gab has launched the Parallel Economy Fund to back early-stage conservative startup firms in the technology, media, healthcare, and finance sectors. Gab outlined the areas that which it is currently interested in investing:
- Making Bitcoin more user friendly and privacy focused for everyday use
- Censorship resistant shipping & logistics
- 3D Printed 2nd Amendment protection
- Decentralized Christian healthcare options
- Software for homeschooling parents
- Distributed pasture grazed meat distribution and butchering
- Christian Entertainment/Content
- Mesh networks, radio technology, and alternative forms of off grid communication.
- Technology for Churches and planting Churches
- Christian AirBnb

Gab can start by using some of the money to hire competent cybersecurity personnel. They get routinely hacked by people using schoolkid exploits, like SQL injection attacks.

They might have better luck as an initiative for something rather than as an alternative to something. They should be their own thing. e.g Rush never talked about the 'also rans' but the 'also rans' talked about him.

That will come in handy when it’s time for succession 🤪

This is exactly what needs to happen.
The venture capitalists on Sand Hill Road hav created monsters, and they dont give a damn what the politics are like as long as they make megamoney.
So any one who comes into a VC firm with a proposal that might undermine their woke goldmines is gonna be up against a wall.
There are groups not like that but they are definitely not the majority.

Being an alternative to something IS being for something. In this case free speech. That is the thread that is running through all this. They aren't looking to cash out. They are doing something, which is better than complaining that they aren't doing it right.

There is a difference between being proactive vs reactive.

Gab is an alternative to Twitter and Facebook that was up and running BEFORE the canceling went into high gear. That wasn’t just proactive, that was prescient.
It is a work in progress, and has mainly been “reactive” when those who control other pieces of the Internet machinery try to shut them down. That’s ok. They don’t have Musk money to build something perfect right away.

There are only 2 truly free speech platforms I know of. Gab and MeWe. Trump’s new site won’t make the list. It will be heavily censured.

and here i thought i was alone. motivation ebbs and flows on getting my contribution completed (mil-grade mesh network communications is one of my things)
IT use to be full of solid, no nonsense, engineer types on the east / northeast coast. Over the last 10-20 yrs the freak show, chinese, and indians (dots not feathers) have flooded the industry. so tired of it.
anyone know if there’s a group of conservative software devs out there?

- Making Bitcoin more user friendly and privacy focused for everyday use (Need retailers to accept crypto)
- Censorship resistant shipping & logistics (didn't know shipping was woke)
- 3D Printed 2nd Amendment protection (depends on legislators)
- Decentralized Christian healthcare options (already exist as health savings groups)
- Software for homeschooling parents (robinsoncurriculum.com and there are others)
- Distributed pasture grazed meat distribution and butchering (Only USDA inspected plants can sell out of state - state inspection does exist in 27 states but meat can only be sold within state and most grocery chains span at least a few states - Get Massie's PRIME Act passed)
- Christian Entertainment/Content (there are some but Christians generally make B grade films)
- Mesh networks, radio technology, and alternative forms of off grid communication. (FCC has control of frequencies)
- Technology for Churches and planting Churches (What tech does a Church need? Need pastors/preachers/priests that aren't woke - websites are easy - open source social network software exists)
- Christian AirBnb (ok? probably the easiest thing on the list - start a website - advertise it)
