In the early 80s were sailing with a carrier group...somewhere, probably the middle of the Pacific, when it was announced on the 1MC that there were two Bears flying over us. I went out to take a look and the lead Bear had an F-14 on each wingtip, but the trailing Bear only had one. In the time it took me to think, “that’s unusual”, an F-14 just seemed to materialize on the Bear’s wingtip. It was freakin moving, and stopped on dime. Pretty impressive.
