A man taking time lapse images of the Milky Way also captured a series of odd light swirls in the sky, and the resulting footage has ignited talk of UFO activity off North Carolina’s Outer Banks.
Artist Wes Snyder is well known in the Southeast for his coastal photography — particularly images taken at night — but even he is at a loss for what the rotating red trails might be.
The lights are seen multiple times in his video — always along the horizon — and they appear to be circling something.
Snyder says the movement defies easy explanation, when taking into account the time lapse process: Each photo is taken with a 10-second exposure, with one second in between.

Many a night have I seen the little red tailpipes of military aircraft screaming across the sky while camped at the north end of Portsmouth Island a few miles south of Ocracoke.
The southern Pamlico bombing range is only a few miles away from there and one or two more ranges are located towards the northern Pamlico.
Cherry Point MCAS and Seymour Johnson AFB use this range all the time as well as bases in Southern Virginia.
These are military jets, not UFOs.
I’m in Atlantic on Core Sound. The plane crash was on Sunday. Two of the kids were from Atlantic.
Restricted airspace and constantly seeing training flights both night and day. One evening, I watched a C130 do 22 laps in a perfect approximately 10-mile radius overhead. He showed up on my Flight Radar App and have a screen grab of his path. They also run refueling exercises (KC-135) between Beaufort and Kitty Hawk and you will see that on the Flight Radar App as well. But they don’t show what the lights are trailing closely behind. The big planes show up on the Flight Radar App, the helicopters and jets do not. I have also seen what appears to be helicopters doing night training. A smaller Bell Ranger (maybe?) out-front with navigation lights followed closely behind by a Black Hawk with lights out. They would fly circles around the MCOLF-Atlantic field (virtually in my back yard) at not more than 1500 feet.
One night recently I watched a C130 doing his laps at 9700 feet while the helicopter races were going on and what appeared to be a drone doing real tight turns above at (guessing) 10,000 feet. I assumed the drone was monitoring the other activity because he was gone shortly after the helicopters left.
Also have Black Hawks, Cobras, Osprey and an occasional Chinook buzz the neighborhood. I tell visitors it’s just our neighborhood watch program.
The low lights in the video that show up in pairs remind me of the Harriers which generally come in pairs and at times come in low and loud over Core Sound and do some pretty tight turns. They tend to show off for the fishing parties on the Sound.
Saw the exact same thing while looking at the night sky near the Calif/Nev border just a couple of weeks ago. Very dark skies here.

That is probably a AC-130 Gunship practicing using training lasers instead of the guns. Live fire would be very expensive and loud.

“UFO” or “UAP” do not necessarily mean *aliens* and it’s rather immature of so many people to immediately jump to that conclusion and then mock or ridicule someone for making a report...especially when the report is accompanied by video or photographic support.

My sister owns a condo at Atlantic Beach and I have watched fascinating lightening storms in the Atlantic but they were just that and other objects were explainable. Now her son was there summer before last living and working and witnessed what is possibly experimental or a UFO type object. It was out over the Atlantic and was making violent 90 degree maneuvers in a matter of a second which would have killed a pilot for several minutes and then shot straight up and disappeared.
Wow. If you look over the ocean, you will see many at Oak Island, NC. Around 3 am is when I see the most.

I have not heard. I thought it was taken off the market. Haven’t been over there since the end of last summer. Have a neighbor who, if there were a mayor, it would be him. I’ll have to ask when I see him.

The Red & White has not reopened. But I did notice the doors open one day last week with a few people milling about. Looked like somebody scouting the property. Hopefully a good sign.
I have heard her mention those names before. I haven’t been there in about five years. She doesn’t lease her condo, just her family and friends use it when they are not there. Her son has a job there in the summers when college classes are over and he stays quite a bit in the last couple of years all summer long.
