Sexual orientation linked to choice of transport to work

Men and women in same-sex couples are more likely to commute by public transport and less likely to drive to work than those in different-sex couples, according to a new study.

Researchers from the University of Exeter Business School analyzed how sexual orientation impacts on choice of transport to work, using data from the American Community Survey comprising 3 million working age households.

They found a 'sexual orientation gap' that was particularly stark among men, with gay and bisexual men in same-sex couples 7% more likely to commute by public transport (for women the gap was 3%) and 13% less likely to drive to work.

Men with a partner of the same sex were on average 69% more likely to commute by less popular forms of transport such as walking or cycling.

The data also showed that men in same-sex couples were 45% more likely to work from home than men in different-sex couples.

The analysis was made using a 1% random sample of the US population from the American Community Survey 2008-18, a nationally representative cross-section of the US population that contains demographic, economic, social, work and housing information.

There must be hundreds/thousands of interesting scientific subjects to be studied in the natural world-many of which might actually produce beneficial results if studied-so why the hell is a study about the preferred method of transportation by humans based on sexual preferences being done-is everyone too lazy to study something that actually makes sense? These people need to be defunded for uselssness...

A fine machine. Especially for those who can afford 2 gals/ mile. (Really not much different than a private jet).

More meat-up opportunities on public transit.

Spelling intentional.

***Maybe next they can study which type of drain cleaner is preferred by gender status.***

Probably already done. Remember the book THE HIDDEN PERSUADERS by Vance Packard(1957), about tests done to make you want to buy.

And “subliminal advertising” in which a flash of a product during a program makes you want to buy it.

I bet they are also more likely to support NPR, recycling, and mask wearing as well. Its an entire lifestyle choice and they go all in.

“Prefer public transportation.”

At least until they become the victim of a mugging while using that public transportation...

People on this thread figured out the likely explanation for this difference in about five minutes, and we didn’t need a $500,000 study to do it.

I couldn't find the topic about how Buttplug arrived with his entourage in SUVs, then switched to a bicycle for the media.

They just admitted that the total # of gay/bi/anything-but-straight population is a teeny tiny portion of the US population.

Follow the link and you'll see: "Researchers identified 450 gay, lesbian and bisexual respondents...". Research the overall GSS survey data for 2008-2018 and I found at https://ropercenter.cornell.edu/general-social-survey "The newly released data file contains individual response coding for 64,814 respondents."

450 ÷ 64,814 * 100 = 0.69%. 99% of the population is straight and less than 1% is gay or bi. But to hear the Dim media tell it, half the people who aren't BYU fans are gay.

“Men with a partner of the same sex were on average 69% more likely to commute by less popular forms of transport such as walking or cycling.”

98% of statistics on the Internet are completely fabricated.

When statistics about gay men just happen to come out to 69 percent of something, it defies credulity.

That’s why Democrats like trains so much.

It’s also why they want your kids in public schools. They get to herd them on a bus twice a day to make them gay.

So let me pretend to be an air head politician.

If I stop government subsidies to public transportation, it will reduce the number of gay and lesbian couples?

Oh my. Correlation does not equal Causation. I thought that was taught in all basic statistics courses.

There’s a correlation with something else here. There is no cause/effect relationship between sexual orientation and method of commuting.

The something else might be that the fashion jobs and the hairdresser jobs are in the city, near public transportation.

Like most, another totally wasted useless study.

Maybe gay men tend to live in urban areas more than straight men where public transport to work is more common?
