The Russian military said today it caught a US submarine in its far-east waters and drove it out with 'appropriate means' after the vessel ignored a Russian request to leave, Interfax news agency has reported.
The encounter came as Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden held a high-stakes phone call, as a tense world watched and worried that a Russian invasion of Ukraine could begin as soon as Wednesday.
Biden warned his Kremlin counterpart that the United States 'will respond decisively and impose swift and severe costs on Russia' should it invade Ukraine.

Virginia class attack subs patrol those waters on a continuous basis. They will continue to lock up the Russian fleet in the East.

I’m sure submarines and recon aircraft perform constant surveillance on the east coast of Russian, but I’d be surprised if they actually strayed into Russian territory.
War story: A friend of mine was in the Navy and trained to understand Russian and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands. One time he was instructed to listen for certain audio tones and to report if he heard it. He later found out it was that now familiar sequence of tones when you connect to a fax machine. He says he now remembers very little Russian.
