Crypto enthusiasts keep funding convoy protests as traditional banks take action against it

Vancouver entrepreneur Jeff Booth said he does not like being called an “organizer” for the funding going toward the self-described freedom convoy protests. And he insists he’s not a “facilitator” either.

But Mr. Booth said he helped create a Bitcoin wallet that has helped channel donations toward those demonstrations. More than $500,000 has been raised through the wallet so far.

In a wide-ranging interview, Mr. Booth said he believes in freedom of speech and his entire family is double-vaccinated against COVID-19. He also “understands both points of view” about pandemic restrictions across Canada, which he believes were “right at first.” And he said he’s not a COVID-19 denier.

“I’m a keyholder for this – that’s it,” he said. “I haven’t raised a dollar. I haven’t donated a dollar of my own and I’m not an organizer. I am just a keyholder in a decentralized platform … I could be replaced by anyone tomorrow. Tomorrow, there could be 10 people.”

After the U.S. crowdfunding platform GoFundMe broke ties with demonstrators last week, the fundraising effort started using other channels. One was the self-described “#1 Free Christian Crowdfunding Site” GiveSendGo, which had raised more than US$8,877,000, as of Friday.

On Thursday, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice granted a request from the provincial government to freeze access to GiveSendGo, under Section 490.8 of the Criminal Code, prohibiting anyone from distributing donations made through the “Freedom Convoy 2022″ and “Adopt-a-Trucker” online campaigns.

This has not been the case for cryptocurrency transfers or donations, which bypass traditional channels and don’t rely on banks or government systems to distribute money.

No totalitarianism. Which is what this is.

So some Porky Pig Premier can collude with a Judge and steal money right out in the open. Theft, plain and simple theft. Canadians need a new political party.

LOL “traditional” banks in the sense these banks have “traditionally” needed taxpayer bailouts every 10 years.

Banks are obsolete. They just don’t know it yet.

This is why governments are so afraid of crypto. No government controls it and a lot of it is decentralized. There is no GoFundme to be biased and pull the funding. There is no Givesendgo to get a court to rule against....and there is no way to stop it.

It probably breaks their plan for controlling people by eliminating cash. Not saying it ever had a chance.

It used to be that whatever a Leftist didn’t like was fascism. Now it’s “white supremacy” .

One problem for them: what if a lot of people look at Detroit, Chicago, and Baltimore, and decide that white supremacy looks preferable to the alternative?

White supremacy? These people stand around in a bubble parroting each other.

When stupid liberals are ignorant and arrogant, it just makes you want to punch them in the face. For me, that would include the women.

Tracking citizens activities with this qtr code is included. It’s like a Social credit card like China uses.

I can see the value of crypto for things like this. The concept is still so new to me that I wouldn’t even know how to donate money this way.

“Tucker showed video of some random CNBC twit claiming that sending crypto to truckers was white supremacy.”

Demonrats keep screeching about white supremacy, but every word out of their mouths implies blacks are at a universal disadvantage presumably because whites are simply naturally supremier at literally everything.

Depends...do you want to follow the letter of the IRS regs or stay anonymous? Most gold/silver investors I know don’t do the record keeping needed to track any “cap gains” taxes they may owe...they buy/sell in cash.
With Bitcoin you can obtain a fresh Bitcoin wallet and buy from a “non-KYC” source (or “mine” some) and never re-use an address when sending or recieving Bitcoin (prevents govt. paid “chain-analysis”) that way no personal information is ever tied to your Bitcoin wallet and you stay anonymous and pay no taxes. Or you can use a KYC exchange like Coinbase or Gemini, keep track of your cost-basis and go ahead and pay any cap gains taxes you may owe.
