The answer is the same as it ever was, and it is also the reason we are sliding into tyranny.
The reason is that over the last 120 years or so, we have become a nation of unbelievers; humanists who trust in the government to restrain evil rather than believers who are self controlled because they know they are accountable for their actions to a Creator.
Humanists have only the force of their own whimsical, capricious, and arbitrary laws, which they change at will. The more humanist a society becomes, the more laws, force, and tyranny are required.
The answer is a turning away from Man’s Potemkin Village wisdom to God’s actual, unchanging, and perfect wisdom.
We must obey God rather than man.
