The Power to Ignore

Once in TV journalism there were people called assignment editors and news directors. Among their responsibilities was to instruct reporters and camera crews which stories they were to cover that day. Their choices were based on several factors that included what they regarded as news, viewer interest (i.e., ratings) and much more subtly, their own biases. When I began my journalism career as a reporter, there were only three broadcast networks and local TV and radio stations. The radio stations played music and reported local news. The news was what these gatekeepers said it was. When the broadcast TV networks went from 15-minute newscasts to 30 minutes, some expressed fear there wouldn't be enough news to fill the time.

Then, the news was considered serious business. We would cover congressional hearings and presidential press conferences. There would be stories about crime, and news from Europe and Asia reported by "bureau chiefs" who were full-time correspondents. Mostly, though, it was subjects considered of importance to America, a type of "eat your vegetables" approach. Yes, the times changed and much of the media today appears to be more opinion than facts, more infotainment than news.

In 1987, the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine, which required broadcasters to present "fair and balanced coverage," contributed to the rise of "alternative media." These cable networks and some print publications began carrying stories ignored by the once dominant major media. They quickly attracted the loyalty of conservative political and religious people who felt their beliefs and values were being ignored.

The power to ignore is still the greatest power major media has and few issues demonstrate that more than the trouble at our southern border.

Fox News and The New York Post have been the only media entities to consistently cover the flood of undocumented migrants entering the country illegally. Critics usually dismiss anything carried by these outlets as coming from "right-wing media" and thus inherently untrustworthy.

The latest example is reporting by Angie Wong in the Post. Wong traveled to Mission, Texas, and reported that after being "processed," migrants are given color-coded folders to the city of their destination. She says she saw airplane tickets to Atlanta, Houston, Newark, and New York. The folder, she writes, also includes "...a U.S. passport looking booklet, cash, prepaid credit cards, travel itineraries and an English translation card," which asks people to help the migrant find the right flight.

Furthermore, observed Wong, each migrant receives "a set of clothing...a blanket, a pillow-sized bag of shelf-life food and a carry-on travel bag. Some have received cellphones."

All of this is presumably paid for by American taxpayers. Wong further notes "their handlers get through immigration and security with just a flash of documents, whereas all other passengers had to show identification." She says she was told the handlers are members of non-government organizations (NGOs) and churches.

Why isn't this news? It is, of course, but it doesn't fit the narrative of a media whose members are, according to numerous surveys over many years, predisposed to Democratic politicians. They ignore what in other circumstances might be called an invasion. Again, ignoring something that is newsworthy is the greatest power they have. No wonder their trust level is, according to Gallup, at its second lowest level on record.

It cannot be legal to disperse illegal aliens throughout our country. This is human trafficking's. All the NGO personnel, transport companies, hotels, etc., who participate should be charged with criminal activity.

I definitely see this as human trafficking. It’s pretty incredible.

It's also known as "Lying by omission" and the MSMs are very good at it.

Thank you, Catholics. Thank you, Church of Latter-Day Saints. Thank you, "Church" of Scientology. Thank you for dumping these crapweasels on us without even asking if we were okay with it, for commandeering our tax dollars (the payment of which you are exempt) and - if we were members of your organization - showing us exactly how much contempt you have for us, your lifelong, dedicated, tithing members.

I was a catholic and, as I've noted before on this board, I watched my dad put his hard-earned dollars into the collection plate every Sunday for years and years, amounting to thousands and thousands of dollars. (A book that cost $1.00 that I wanted? I was told I would have to "wait until next week.") And what did we get for that loyalty? Listening to unchaste clerics lecture us about "kindness" when they were really just saying "Enjoy your M3xicans! Aren't they great? They work cheap!"

You know, if some person who's really down on his luck with criminals after him because he belongs to the wrong political party applies to a church for help finding a new home where he doesn't have to worry about being shot, no blame to him. A church should help. I've met people like that who were truly refugees and being persecuted in the place where they were born, struggling to find a new home for themselves and their families. I don't begrudge them that kind of help. If a cleric I knew and trusted asked if I would help someone like that out - assuming I was able - I probably would. Persecution sucks.

But millions of bums and criminals are a different story. If a cleric helps a persecuted family find a new home, then leaves the door open so a hundred more can sneak in, that's not kindness.

And in the case of Scientology - you know they make veritable slaves out of immigrants they're "helping to find new homes," right? It's human trafficking on a gigantic scale with these guys - ho hum, who cares, right? Haha Scientology crackpots, they're so funny! (Enjoy your Haitians, Indonesians, and Russians, folks!)

They use the "refugee" and "asylum" cards to put on a patina of legality.

They have gamed the system, and trained the people coming to the border to say the right words to be classified as "refugees".

I would have liked to hear Cal tell about the slide INTO the so-called “Fairness Doctrine”. I grew up with the “news” as he described entering it.

The end of the “Fairness Doctrine” unleashed Conservative radio and television. People were already starving for relief from the Liberal mind control. It got this way over decades. But in his re-tell, he just jumps right over it.

The criminals are in charge of the people who would do the charging.

I would like to hear Cal Thomas say he was wrong to appear on the NR “Against Trump” cover.

ignoring something that is newsworthy is the greatest power they have.

I've said this for years. Sadly, it ain't a scandal unless the New York Times says it's a scandal.

See Tagline and think of Hunter Biden's laptop.

They are not refugees seeking asylum.

They are future welfare state voters being trafficked, and all assisting them are performing criminal acts. Anything else is Brandon b.s.
