House Resolution 5421, passed on party lines, and Senate bill S626 will amend the Lacy act to prohibit the transportation into or within the US of all live animals of all types. Exceptions are: 1 - farm animals 2 - cats and dogs 3 - any animal that was traded in very large numbers during the calendar year 2021. It should be noted that the pandemic greatly reduced animal shipments during 2021.
This will destroy most of the pet industry. Only those most popular 50 species of fish sold by chain stores in vast quantities will be listed. It should be noted that the common Plecostomus is the most injurious and most popular fish in the industry. Clearly the bill is not about the protection of anything other than special interests.
This law, if passed will create a white list of approved species. ALL others will be banned. The result will be loss of income of indigenous people world wide and the loss of habitats hobbyists have been protecting for 75 years.
The unintended consequences of this foolish legislation will cause the extinction of thousands of species currently protected by the pet industry. Mining, logging, and farming interests are anxious to purchase this land. Once it is no longer of economic value for its natural life it will be destroyed.
Send a message to your US Senators urging them to VOTE NO to amendments to HR4521 impacting the Lacey Act.

This is about mods to the Lacey act.
Some how they got their sons to America before that. My Granddad’s first job in America was being a soldier in the US army during WWI.
“Third, the bill establishes a presumptive prohibition on the importation of any nonnative species of wild mammal, wild bird, fish (including mollusks and crustacea), amphibian, or reptile, or the eggs of any such species.”
I have a single common goldfish in a 75 gallon tank so I’m in a couple of FB fish keeping groups. The main way to get some of the more exotic GF is online. Most of those fish (Ranchu, Shubunkin) come from places like Japan and Thailand. They are usually not dumped anywhere, mainly because they don’t live long enough to be a problem. All of the cross breeding has consequences IMO. A lot of fish keepers will be pissed if this passes and they have a right to be concerned.
Instead of smuggling humans the mexican coyotes will start smuggling in fluffy and fido...
If anyone believes this is being done for any good and helpful reasons, you still have learned NOTHING.
If you refuse to learn, you deserve what’s coming.
Well then Ill take the flak. The pits and the owners should be shot. End of problems in the genetic lines of both.
Sounds like they are trying to get at things like the Snakehead fish.
“ Strange, I never hear about Golden Retrievers from bad pet owners attacking people.....”
I have met a few that will lick you to death.
You will own nothing and be happy.
Didn't Richard Gere try that once?
S’cuse me?
Seriously?
WTH is wrong with these people?
The U.S. government makes serious problems, and only works on solving fake or meaningless issues. It’s been that way for a long time, with only the Trump hiatus, where some major problems were corrected or moved toward correction. This corrective action extremely pissed off the U.S government, which only wants to create problems, the more severe the better.
That’s why they did the coup on Trump.
This is merely a “shiny object” to distract the population.
Will uninformed idiots who have no understanding of what they are saying be banned?
How about punishing irresponsible and criminal owners instead of the animal? My family has 2 pits and they are overly friendly with people. Of course, they are responsible owners.
Actually it is more frequent now with inbreeding and backyard breeders.
Just about any dog can be made to be aggressive with mistreatment and lack of socialization. Obviously some dogs are more aggressive than others. Especially in guard dogs (GSD, Pits, Rotties, Dobies, etc).
Actually Pitbulls are very popular. Visit a shelter and you will see that most dogs are part Pitbull.
In the 90s they used to mostly lab mixes.
Yes, they’re very popular in the pound. Because no one can handle them.
No, look at the stats and even though in my liberal area I see more the last decade or 2 than I ever did before, the breeds that encompass the type still are not that popular.
IOW, PBTs and their ilk have a very high rate of attack and mauling.
I lived in a neighborhood in the 90s where some of the young people thought it was cool to have pit bulls, and use them to intimidate people. There was one dog who was let out to roam the neighborhood freely, and everyone was afraid of it.
The family I lived with at the time had grandkids, and lots of sports equipment in the house. After one encounter with the roaming dog, I started carrying a borrowed baseball bat whenever I had to go to and from my car.
One day my boyfriend and I were out, and we had a minor traffic accident. Police came and asked what the baseball bat was for. I told him about the pit bull, and he rolled his eyes as if he’d heard the pit bull problem many times before.
Later, the dogs were outlawed here; but it doesn’t seem to be very well enforced, as lots of people still keep them.
I know responsible people who have pet pit bulls and swear by their good nature and safety. But when you live in a more ‘edgy’ neighborhood, you don’t want them around.
GSD are the most popular dog in the world, for a century. Considering their usage (and consequent GENETICS which you deny), they should have much bigger numbers for “bites”. But they don’t, because despite breeding and training many for MIL and police work (for which they NEED to be controllable), they are basically a HERDING dog (it’s their name!) which is not meant to be aggressive.
“Bites” is the usual stat used. A bite can be a nip, or a solid single bite, or a complete deadly mauling. A bite might not even be an “attack”. See how many delineate “mauling” and watch your PBTs skyrocket in %, which they already have under any definition.
Genetics is VERY important. It is not all about “poor socialization” or being dominant. My God, Americans are wimpy and terrible asserting control over any dogs, always. They’re not big on training, especially serious instead of stupid training as popular now. Never have been. By your standard all dogs should be ripping into people all the time.
