Texas Health and Human Services released updated statistics Monday showing that number of abortions reported in the state decreased almost 60% in the first month after new restrictions went into effect.

The state reported 2,197 induced terminations of pregnancies for September of 2021, following 5,404 in August, the last month before Senate Bill 8 took effect. Notably, in September there were only two induced abortions performed after six weeks of gestation, which the new law allows only under medical exemptions.

The data shows that a study done in October by the Texas Policy Evaluation Project at the University of Texas at Austin which showed that abortions fell by 50 percent in September was off by almost 10%.

Texas Right to Life, an organization that opposes abortion access, said in a statement that “the success of the Texas Heartbeat Act is embodied by every child saved.” March.

They went to Illinois or California for abortions. They should stay there.

OMG! All those black children being born! They’ll just end up in prison so you may as well kill them before they are born. (/smug liberal)

I hope we’re truly saving babies and that they’re just not going to another state.

Person: Well, they are just going to get abortions anyway, so they might as well be legal.
\/\/ayne: Well, that applies to bank robberies as well. They are illegal but people do them anyway. Might as well make them legal.
Person: That's not the same!
\/\/ayne: That's exactly the same.

Abortion is just a convenient method for democrat women to be unfaithful to their husbands without apparent consequences

Probably some of them are, but it will deter others. If ending abortion is going to be a state by state issue (as some here on FR say it must be) then we can't worry about what other states are doing, only what is happening in our own backyard where we arguably have the power to do something. If other states want to set themselves up as baby-killing meccas, that's on them and God will judge them accordingly.

They went to Illinois or California for abortions.

Probably.

Restricting or even outlawing abortion is not going to end abortion.

Just as outlawing murder did not end murder.

But it does mean that as a society we do not condone the killing of the innocent.

And that is actually important.

And who knows, maybe for a few they actually stopped and decided to have the baby and give it up for adoption.

New York State has already made a law allowing abortion...no matter what happens at the Federal level. I think a couple other states also did the same.

That’s right, but even there it’s never a done-deal. Laws can change and be overturned by the various courts. In some places it is more unlikely than others, but that shouldn’t stop us saving the lives of the unborn where we can.
