CHICAGO – It has been mentioned in earlier Rooftop Revelations that a child born today into the South Side of Chicago did not choose to be born into such a violent and impoverished world. But that was the child’s fate. The hope here is that the child will have strong parents or at least one strong parental figure who can provide the guidance to turn that fate into a rags-to-riches story or, at the very least, a rags-to-middle class story. But what about the child who has no one or perhaps was born to children? What hope is there that such a child will survive the streets where every day killings send the same message: life is cheap?
Pastor Corey Brooks knows the odds are against that child. He knows that men and women like him may be the child’s best hope to see that there is a world of opportunities out there. That is why on the 79th day of his 100-day rooftop vigil to raise funds for a community center to bring hope to such children, he invited Vondale Singleton, CEO of CHAMPS Mentoring, for a fireside talk.
Singleton began the conversation by thanking the pastor (and Project H.O.O.D.) for being the first person "to give me an opportunity to work within the community."
He went on to say, "What determines our success is how well we can make somebody else successful … We believe that every young person is born to win in every situation in life. Education, empowerment and exposure, those three Es are the basis of what we do every single day."

Aw...give ‘em a break. They were just celebrating Black History Month. (I’ve heard there is a White History Month, but the MSM don’t seem to know when it is.)
Life is precious, but death comes to everyone, so death is cheep. The question then is how you are going to spend your life before your death.
White History Month comes just after Asian History Month and Mexican History Month. Unfortunately, there is no Islamic History Month, but I’m sure some jihadi will fix that outrage soon.
Man, I thought I had it bad being born in small town Oklahoma, Dirt Poor... I think I was BLESSED...
“The hope here is that the child will have strong parents or at least one strong parental figure who can provide the guidance to turn that fate into a rags-to-riches story”
“Sixty-four percent of Black children live in single-parent families”
That’s actually down from 72% in 2011. In a lot of single parent homes the only discipline the kids get is in the hood. Maybe that’s a good sign a lot of blacks are opting for a two parent family now contrary to BLM who wants to destroy the traditional family.
I could be wrong, but I recall Pastor Corey Brooks is one of the good guys, trying to fix this.
He isn’t anti-police, and speaks out (loudly) against the Leftist Plantation that has been created, though he does not use that phrase.

You and me both. Growing up living on a farm here in OK, I always yearned to get off the farm and go into town and let loose. Now, being a lot older and a itty bitty tiny bit wiser, I love it on the farm and dislike having to go into town for anything. I know I’m blessed by being rural. Some of the crap in town makes me scratch my head (blue hair, nose rings, masks, rap crap music), but also makes me thank God for the dirt roads leading home. Of course, YMMV.
If you’ve not bee to places like Ethiopia or Bangladesh, you have no concept of how cheap human life can be.
I'll bet that neither country kills between 20-25% of perfectly viable humans in the womb like GOD bless America! does.
I moved from the big city (Indianapolis) 17 years ago to a rural township with 1800 population.
and I haven’t looked back!
