Last week, Sen. Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) suffered a stroke and underwent brain surgery. He is currently hospitalized in Albuquerque. He is expected to return to the U.S. Senate in four to six weeks, assuming there are no further medical complications. However, during his absence, Democrats no longer have a majority in the Senate—Republicans have a 50-49 majority.
This means that until Luján returns, a united GOP can block the Democrats’ agenda and there’s nothing the Democrats could do about it.
This is actually a big deal. In addition to blocking the Democrats’ legislative agenda, Luján’s absence could potentially impact Joe Biden’s Supreme Court nomination.
Biden has said he plans to announce his Supreme Court nominee at the end of February, and the average time from nomination to confirmation in recent decades has been 41 days. If Lujan’s return to the U.S. Senate is delayed, it could change the timeline or the outcome of Biden’s Supreme Court nomination.

We’ve all seen this movie before and know all to well how it ends.
Yep. I know that all too well.
As well as I know that the republicans won't.
“Here would be the PERFECT time to launch new bills and legislation... but McConnell will do, NOTHING.”
Which would have ZERO chance of getting past the house or signed by Biden.
What stops the Dem Leadership from having a little chit-chat with him, he steps down with the promise that he’ll be taken care of later for his loyalty, Grisham picks another Dem to fill in and the majority continues rolling along?
And now I read an article that Manchin seems to be ok with the Democrat attempt to go after the Electoral College stuff.
And folks thought he would switch sides. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Democrats Have Lost Their Majority in the Senate (For Now) and That’s Kind of a Big Deal; But Will Republicans Be United?
I doubt it, as many if not most are just as ignorant if not outright mentally challenged as the liberals/socialists. The only way people will change is, if and when it severely hurts their pocketbooks or impacts their health, but we are not quite there yet. But if our government continuous dishing out all that crap we may reach this point before too long.
Will republicons be united? Sure they will... with the democrats
Voting for Romney in the primary would have been bad, but voting for him in the election was the right thing to do. I couldn’t stand the man, although I will say that he gave a stump speech in my town in Florida and he was actually quite good. Probably didn’t mean any of it, but even Rush liked him.
And, bad as he was, Romney sure would have been better than Obama and his evil minion horde.
He could die, and it wouldn't matter. Like Biden, the Dems will have him suffused with drugs, use high voltage electroshock, feed him baby's blood, satanic incantations - anything to keep his corpse alive for a short press conference.
Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States. From a RINO perspective, a Democratic victory is a Republican victory.
— Communist goal #15
So why does he go along with them?
Remember, he voted to confirm Merrick Garland as AG. That is on him alone.
So long as it grinds the Democratic agenda to a halt, it would be worth it.
Like making vaccine mandates illegal nation wide,
But McConnell will do, NOTHING.”
Get ahead by banning fossil fools, like McConnell, Biden, Pelosi, Feinstein, Schumer, Leahy, etc.
Until Lujan returns, Mitt Romney and Susan Collins have volunteered to bat for the other team . . . as usual.
Nope, Virgil Goode was the only credible candidate in 2012. Willard the Rat was there to assure Zero’s “reelection.” He was horrible on judges in MA, BTW.
Republicans have a 50-49 majority.
Maybe now they can vote to convict Trump, at long last! /s
Yep. It’s not that they can use this time to do stuff, but rather, that they can use this time to stop stuff. When you’ve got a Democrat house and a Democrat president all the Senate can do is keep things from happening - not cause things to happen.
I can’t believe you did either. The governor of MA runs for Senator from UT? Ok, well carpetbagging like that’s been done before. But I don’t approve.
It helps to set the narrative for the upcoming mid-term campaign.

He is doing fine, but after the stroke, he has amnesia and thinks he is Mitt Romney and is now a Republican. They are fine with him thinking that he is Fred Sanford but it may take several weeks to convince him that he is not a Republican.
