One of the major rules of politics is don’t compare anything to the Holocaust because you look like a fool. And that’s exactly what MSNBC’s far-left “historian” Douglas Brinkley did during Thursday’s January 6 festivities on Craig Melvin Reports. And not only did he compare the riot at the Capitol to the systematic killing of 6 million Jews, but he also declared America in a “neo-civil war” and warned of “dark, troubled times” ahead.
Brinkley kicked off his ridiculous comments by praising Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-WY) as having “become our true profiles in courage.” Adding: “The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library Foundation every year gives an award. It should go to her,” and compared her to President Abraham Lincoln.
Next came his gross comparison to the Holocaust where he compared video of the riot to then-General Eisenhower documenting the concentration camps to counter deniers. “But we have film footage of what happened on January 6, we have proof. Dwight Eisenhower, during World War II, made sure all the Holocaust camps were filmed. So, we’ve got the film footage,” he bragged.
And following the example of every other half-baked, wannabe luminary on Twitter, Brinkley announced that he agreed the riot was also like 9/11 and Pearl Harbor and argued January 6 needed a special name:
But my worry is what do we call this and make sure we honor this day, this dark stained day every year. So, we’ve got to keep saying January 6. I think this is like December 7 Pearl Harbor, it is like the 9/11 tragedy, and we also have need to not be afraid to call it the Trump Insurrection of January 6. Because in the end, all roads to what went wrong that day lead to Donald Trump’s ill behavior, his anti-democratic stance he took, the big lie, after the presidential election tallies came in and Joe Biden had won by millions of votes.
January 6 has been described as 9/11, Pearl Harbor, the Holocaust, and Gettysburg. Is this the new Chrismahanukwanzakah? Just cramming everything together.
Further, Brinkley warned that we could be witnessing the “birth of a type of native authoritarianism.” And his advice to counter it was that “January 6 has to be a crusade that’s every day as The New York Times op-ed said every day is January 6.”
What he meant was every day until the midterm election because Democrats are only using the day to forward their own political machinations. And that’s why the liberal media and the left wanted to federalize America’s election system:
We’ve got to secure free and fair elections; that's the heart and soul of our democracy. That is a great export, we’re the world’s oldest democracy. And if we don’t defend that, we're in dark, troubled times.
Ironically, host Craig Melvin whined that “You’ve a lot of folks now, dozens of people, who are trying to use what happened at the Capitol on January 6 to win elections.” He was talking about people who had attended so-called “Stop the Steal” rallies.

No, he’s actually right. The similarities between Trump/Hitler and the Holocaust/January 6 are shocking and amazing.
Let’s see; millions of Hitler’s enemies died in the Holocaust and one of Trump’s supporters died on January 6 apparently because she strayed from the velvet ropes. Hitler declared war on Europe killing more millions and Trump did his best to end wars in the Middle East and Afghanistan. Domestic enemies of Hitler ended up in prison and/or beheaded and Trump’s enemies ended up getting book deals and being celebrated. Close allies of Hitler got rich and close allies of Trump lost everything in bogus prosecutions.
I don’t understand how people cannot see the similarities.

No one at Gettysburg took selfies. There are no selfies of the six million who died in the death camps. Even the evil Japanese pilots did not take selfies during their suicide missions.

I have been highly suspicious of Douglas Brinkley from the first time I saw him-—the Establishment has been pushing his faux-histories for decades and he’s taken like some upper-echelon version of a Media luminary like Tom Brokaw-—they come out with these easily digestible user-friendly massive-in-scope round-ups to whole decades which are merely rehashes of received non-wisdom always available to the “mind-at-large”. They illuminate nothing and are never intended to. NO ONE with a mind takes gatekeepers like Brinkley seriously.
