Conservative lawmakers in Canada ousted leader Erin O’Toole Wednesday in a stunning takedown that follows his attempts to veer Justin Trudeau’s main opposition party to the left.
O’Toole’s strong-armed expulsion by a rebellion of his own MPs opens a vault of questions about the future of the Conservative movement. Who will lead the party and will its diverse coalition of fiscal and social conservatives stay united?

Truckers are lighting fires under the establishment all over the place. Well done people!
Apparently Canada has RINOs too, hope they get rid of more.
Thank GOD! The man was a buffoon!
He’s a coward. That’s why he’s flailing.
Too bad the Repubs are incapable of gett9ing rid of their Assistant Democrat “leadership”.
They go back quite a way. The term for them up here was red tories.
Yup, glad he is done, especially for his conversion therapy stance.
We have a long history of RINOism. We use to at one time call them Red Tories. Mulroney governed over a very RINO party in his days in the 1980s. Which is why the Reform Party was created.
I went to high school with him.
To be honest, I expected a great deal more from him than this... He was faced with a moment, where he needed to show true leadership, and he failed, utterly. So far the only people in the Conservative Party that have showed true leadership in the midst of this current situation have been Pierre Poilivere and Candice Bergen, as well as the several other Conservative MPs, who have been down at the protest, serving food to the truckers.
The last election was his to win, Justin Trudeau was stupid, corrupt, and incompetent ... and O’Toole still lost
that was bad enough, but the obstinate (and idiotic) refusal to meet the truckers and even give any moral support to them was the last straw
Pierre Poilievre is the real Conservative we need
I don’t think it has been reported yet but if they pick anyone other than Pierre Poilievre as the interim (and then permanent) leader, they are making a horrible mistake.
Just makes me wonder if there some of the boys and girls in the back seat of the Liberal party are wondering about their leadership right now. When one reflects on the statement by Benjamin Dichter at their Sunday press conference, he was basically calling for the ouster of O’Toole, Brandeau and Singh. Well.... he is 1/3 of the way there!
I understand that the Canadians can "call an election" if the people are dissatisfied with their government.
Can someone from Canada explain how that works?
Wish we could do that in the U.S.
Biden and Harris would be out on their butts.
An election was called. It was the Tories’ to win and this putz screwed up the opportunity.
The world can never repay these truckers.
When you have a three party system, they all tend to be alike, with the only difference being a little to the right or a little bit to the left.
How soon before they can call another one?
From what I see, the Canadians are sick and tired of Trudeau.
There is nothing conservative about OTool
O’Fool, we call him up here.
It all depends on whether the governing party has a majority of seats or not. If they have a majority (more than half the seats in parliament) the party calls the shots and usually the norm is to hold an election every 4 years. If they have less than half in a minority like is now the case the combined opposition parties have to call a vote of no confidence and outvote the governing party to trigger an election. But that call is tricky because Canadians as a rule don’t like too many elections and they have punished parties that trigger these snap elections. The last election was called by Trudeau hoping to increase his party’s seats to majority status but only a few seats shifted and the minority status remained. Nothing changed essentially except the money spent on the election.
