A farming “insider”.
That could be anyone from a seed salesman to an equipment operator.
Corn will be planted, but not with the same level of fertilizer, herbicides, and pesticides as before.
Since most of the input costs are from Bayer/Monsanto, they will start screaming to world governments for a bail out.
Yields will go down. HFCS and ethanol will take a hit. Meat prices at the store will sky rocket while live head prices plummet.
Yeah... Get a freezer. Plant a Garden. Learn to can and preserve food. The US SHOULD be OK, but many other places won’t be.
There isn’t enough seed.
A lot has went overseas.
A side point, but I want to make clear they are not really using liquid nitrogen. It is anhydrous ammonia. Farm boy here.
The US Farmer can outproduce anyone. That is why in the 1930s Dust Bowl years FDR ordered the slaughter and burial of tens of thousands of cattle and hogs, to get the price up.
Starving people without jobs were denied access to the beef.
LOL, only Americans can approach hard times with good humor and a we can work with that attitude.
Take what you need? Looters will take all they can carry.
If you need food just find those houses that have the ‘Love is Love, Water is Life, Black Lives Matter’ signs in their yards. They can’t defend themselves and most of them work for the government.
I'm convinced that, at this phase of the game, this is how we fight the lefties. By starving the beast, and by becoming tougher people. By living a more spartan lifestyle, we become Spartans.
I used to make that too- “The never-ending soup” we used to call it- every day we would add something new like a can of corn or tomatoes, or cream- depending on which direction it was taking.
Could easily get it to last a week.
Family legend here.
Grandpa had dairy cows. The NRA men came and dumped the milk, and said he had to stop milking to raise prices.
So... Grandpa bootlegged milk to the local community and town.
Not sure if it is true, but something I think about. He had to smuggle milk to starving children because FDR said so.
Corn == Ethanol
" “Things for 2022 are interesting (and scary). Input costs for things like fertilizer, liquid nitrogen and seeds are like triple and quadruple the old prices.
It will not be profitable to plant this year. Let me repeat, the economics will NOT work."
"Our plan, is to drop about 700 acres of corn off and convert to soybeans (they use less fertilizer, and we also have chicken manure from that operation).
Guess what? We are not the only ones with those plans.
Already there is a shortage of soybean seeds, so we will see how that will work out.
"The way I see it, there will be a major grain shortage later in the year, especially with corn. I mean, we are small with that.
What about these people in the midwest who have like 10,000 acres of corn? This will not be good.”
"Corn for example, typically takes about 600 pounds of fertilizer per acre, plus 50 gallons of liquid nitrogen.
Times that by many acres and thats a lot of money.
Soybeans take much less.
" The plan for us, and most others around here, is to drastically cut corn acres and switch to soybeans.
Problem is, there is apparently a soybean seed shortage because others have this plan as well.
We were lucky enough to pre buy enough to do it.
However, most people, especially younger farmers, or farmers where that is all they do, probably don’t have the money to front like that."
Is this a planned famine as a result of mandated elimination of petroleum products by the regime ?
Unintended consequences, ..or Ivy League computer modeling into subsistence and population control ?
Nothing from the regime surprises me, anymore. Take note of how our grandparents survived during hard times, or how the British survived during WWII .
You can't hunt deer if there aren't any around to harvest; look at those who survived the Depression.
Read the entire article to gain a full understanding of the enormity of the farm situation and necessary fertilizers Your comments welcomed .
People will have to go back to eating real food.
The snacks and junk food could disappear from the shelves tomorrow and still no one would starve to death. They would complain mightily, but starve? No. Not yet.
metmom :" If you are thinking about stocking up now, you are already too late. But I suppose better late than never."
"One can also join Diana’s weekly gardening thread and learn some basics about gardening and growing your own food. It may be more essential than you realize."
Like during the Depression, songbirds are gonna be on the menu.

Sure, only 15%...
You surely heard during the recent pandemic of our dairy farmers who were forced to dump their milk because there were no plastic containers available to package the milk?
Or, the lack of labor in our beef processing facilities which had the obvious impact on availability and price.
This food supply chain issue is much more than the food itself...
MFO
Yep, that’s exactly what it will take.
