NEW ORLEANS (AP) — As school systems across the U.S. struggle to keep classrooms open amid the pandemic, New Orleans is set to become the nation’s first major district to mandate COVID-19 vaccinations for children 5 and up, though state regulations will allow parents to opt out easily.
Ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, many schools in the city have been holding vaccination events, including one at KIPP Believe school.
One by one, dozens of children presented their signed permission slips, pushed up the sleeves of their pale yellow school uniform shirts and — often wincing, but rarely with tears — received a shot. Then they got candy.
Some said they had loved ones who had gotten the coronavirus and wanted to do what they could to protect their families. Others said their parents decided. Eight-year-old Nyla Carey had talked to her mother.
“She said that the COVID shot was to protect you. And so now I want to be brave,” the third-grader said before going back to class.
New Orleans is a Democratic enclave in a red state, and the city and the district are outliers in the South, where many parents and elected officials have balked at measures to control the coronavirus.

Credit to UCSF Professor Aditi Bhargava for bringing this particular UK FOIA request to my attention. I haven’t seen it anywhere else, so I thought I’d share it with you in case you missed it as well.
The request was:
Please supply deaths caused solely by covid 19, where covid is the only cause of death listed on the death certificate, broken down by age group and gender between feb 2020 up to and including dec 2021.
Here is the most interesting part of the full response which covered nearly two years since the very start of the pandemic: the number of young people in the UK who died solely from COVID:
Your chance of being killed from COVID is basically 0 if you are under 24 years old.
Therefore, based on this data, if you were a policymaker in the US, you’d want to mandate the vaccines for anyone under 24, right?
0 deaths in 2 years, yet vaccines are mandated for young people in schools and universities.
This is how insane these mandates are.
How can 0 deaths justify a state of emergency applied to people under 24? How can it justify mandating a vaccine?
As far as I know, not a single one of the 3,143 public health officials in the US has spoken out against vaccine mandates for people under 24.

Teacher! Leave them kids alone! How can you have any recess if you don’t have vaccine.
Does anyone find it odd that the demographic that wants freedom, reparations, justice, autonomy, who goes on and on about how they were enslaved by the white man and should be able to decide and map their own destiny, tends to be the first demographic that will line up, line up their kids, wear the masks, socially distance and do as they are told.
And I don’t mean that in any sort of derogatory or demeaning way, but one would think that they would be the last group to listen to a that little POS, white man, Fauci.

That might be the case. But whoever I go, if I see 100 people with masks, solid 90% are blacks
Hmmm, I seem to recall the same. Maybe this is a regional or city/country thing. I shall go back and see where I gained that notion.
They do the masks, but a lot of them do not trust the vax.
