Two New Polls on Trump vs. DeSantis
NR ^ | January 28, 202 | Could DeSantis Beat Trump?

Posted on 01/28/2022 3:17:48 PM PST by conservative98

Two new polls show Florida governor Ron DeSantis with a realistic shot of defeating Donald Trump in a 2024 primary.

The former president remains the strong favorite, but he’s under 50 percent in the latest YouGov survey:

GOP Presidential Polling:

Trump: 46%
DeSantis: 21%
Pence: 6%
Haley: 6%
Carlson: 2%

YouGov / January 24, 2022 / n=1568 / Onlinehttps://t.co/axPvpnEU7N— Polling USA (@USA_Polling) January 28, 2022

A new poll by Echelon Insights shows that DeSantis’s position has improved in the last few months in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup:

TRUMP v. DESANTIS two-way GOP primary:

Trump 57%
DeSantis 32%

In October, this was Trump +40. Today, it's Trump +25. pic.twitter.com/1vYJYby3EN— Patrick Ruffini (@PatrickRuffini) January 27, 2022

As pollster Patrick Ruffini notes, Trump’s lead over DeSantis is only 16 points among Republicans who have heard of the Florida governor. We are of course still 24 months from the kickoff of presidential primaries and caucuses — plenty of time for average Republican voters to get to know DeSantis.

For more on DeSantis’s 2024 path and calculus, see Rich’s (Could DeSantis Beat Trump?) piece from last week.

From what I understand, if Trump were to announce now, he would be subject to stringent campaign finance laws and could not raise as much money.

"he is so inarticulate that it’s almost embarassing".

It's as though his vocabulary was only 50 words.

He's got to eliminate every one of his sentences' downward inflexions. A short course in the "art of speaking" would do wonders.

That's not true at all. There's no time threshold to run for president.

I personally contributed the max to PDJT campaign. I will wait to see how 2024 shakes out. The vax is a big issue for me. I say that because he got hoodwinked on the entire Covid aspects. He (trump) could not fill positions with reliable people. He could have picked people out of a phone book and done better. JMHO. He was pushing the vax until 3 weeks ago. Bad decisions after being stabbed in the back. I may be willing to overlook it or hold it against him. Time will tell.

freedom of choice

Should be his first focus, and ignore past history. Trump doesn’t have to admit anything good or bad about Covid jabs, just focus on future. Truth be told there will be those that give credit (deserved) and blame (also deserved) because of the people he had surrounded himself with.

Covid will take care of itself. Focus on real problems and ignore any media baiting. The difficulty is going to be staying on nonCovid messages.
Covid and war in Ukraine are the dems’ only hopes. With election oversight, if Trump doesn’t run, it will be an open battle.

One of the main things I dislike about Trump is his level of communication

If Trump did nothing but stand on stage, with a flag, raise a fist, and say, Let’s Go Brandon, that’s the only MAGA speech line he would need to say.

Christie is not under 1% of anything

Not true ,in Weight Watchers, he’s in the “lost less than 1%” group.

If you recall, Trump put Pence in charge of the Covid pandemic. Pence did not do his job.

I don’t know the ins and outs of campaign finance laws, but one of the commentators at RSBN made that claim at the Florence, Arizona rally (either before or after Trump started speaking).

“Trump put Pence in charge of the Covid pandemic.”

Pence and Fauci, both Trump picks. Not sure how that would make his judgment look better, though.
