Two New Polls on Trump vs. DeSantis
NR ^ | January 28, 202 | Could DeSantis Beat Trump?

Posted on 01/28/2022 3:17:48 PM PST by conservative98

Two new polls show Florida governor Ron DeSantis with a realistic shot of defeating Donald Trump in a 2024 primary.

The former president remains the strong favorite, but he’s under 50 percent in the latest YouGov survey:

GOP Presidential Polling:

Trump: 46%
DeSantis: 21%
Pence: 6%
Haley: 6%
Carlson: 2%

YouGov / January 24, 2022 / n=1568 / Onlinehttps://t.co/axPvpnEU7N— Polling USA (@USA_Polling) January 28, 2022

A new poll by Echelon Insights shows that DeSantis’s position has improved in the last few months in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup:

TRUMP v. DESANTIS two-way GOP primary:

Trump 57%
DeSantis 32%

In October, this was Trump +40. Today, it's Trump +25. pic.twitter.com/1vYJYby3EN— Patrick Ruffini (@PatrickRuffini) January 27, 2022

As pollster Patrick Ruffini notes, Trump’s lead over DeSantis is only 16 points among Republicans who have heard of the Florida governor. We are of course still 24 months from the kickoff of presidential primaries and caucuses — plenty of time for average Republican voters to get to know DeSantis.

For more on DeSantis’s 2024 path and calculus, see Rich’s (Could DeSantis Beat Trump?) piece from last week.

we’d have a conservative majority on the Supreme Court today.
Except for John Roberts.

I hope you don't think John(GWB)Roberts is a conservative.

Any DeSantis that were to beat Trump would be slaughtered in the general election. I am not voting for war-seeker DeSantis, ever.

I think DeSantis could potentially defeat Trump in a head to head matchup...
Most people outside of Freerepublic don't even know who DeSantis is.

When the Media, including the phony patriots at Fox, start talking TO, not about DeSantis he might have a shot.

Until then he might as well be Jindal...WHO?

They aren’t running against each other. DeSantis will be governor until 2026 if he wins re-election (he will). Probably he will be President in 2028.

What do you mean except for John Roberts? I said we would have a conservative majority. Meaning we don't. We have two conservatives judges. Only Alito and Thomas are right of center.

You could say we need more time to properly evaluate Amy Barrett Coney.

You realize that doesn’t mean Trump didn’t like the idea. Trump is a lot shrewder than most people criticizing his decision. Trump said it was a boom if you keep Fauci but a bigger BOOM if you fire him.

As for Bill, he is spinning. Bill may say you should have fired him now but Bill is the one who said in 2020 Trump shouldn’t criticize Fauci and to keep him as an advisor.

Roberts is slightly to the right of Kavanaugh and Gorsuch, if you look at his overall record. He goes to the left on big decisions, but on other ones, he can be closer to the right.

More crap to divide the GOP. DeSantis is running for re-election this year.

“So you can’t blame Trump for that and he did what he could to shut him out.”

Trump made Fauci the face of his Covid response, including looong daily briefings on TV, with the last one under Trump being in mid Nov 2020. To argue Trump was a helpless bystander is absurd.

Nikki Haley, Ted Cruz and Micro Rubio are not natural born citizens.

“Trump said it was a boom if you keep Fauci but a bigger BOOM if you fire him.”

If that’s what he actually believes, it’s safe to say the average American is smarter than he, since everyone - excluding Democrats - see what disaster Fauci has wreaked on the nation.

Haley would get ZERO electoral votes in the southeast states.

He will come back in whatever form he chooses... but he will be back and WIN!

The problem was, and still remains, is after making him the go-to guy on Covid, Trump sees no reason to dump Fauci. The reasons he offered were that Fauci was gladhanded him - said “call me Tony” - and because Fauci had been part of the Swamp for years.
(Actually, those should be reasons *not* to set him up as the Permanent Covid-God in the first place.)
