Public-health officials ruined many lives by insisting that workers with natural immunity to Covid-19 be fired if they weren’t fully vaccinated. But after two years of accruing data, the superiority of natural immunity over vaccinated immunity is clear. By firing staff with natural immunity, employers got rid of those least likely to infect others. It’s time to reinstate those employees with an apology.
For most of last year, many of us called for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to release its data on reinfection rates, but the agency refused. Finally last week, the CDC released data from New York and California, which demonstrated natural immunity was 2.8 times as effective in preventing hospitalization and 3.3 to 4.7 times as effective in preventing Covid infection compared with vaccination.
Yet the CDC spun the report to fit its narrative, bannering the conclusion “vaccination remains the safest strategy.” It based this conclusion on the finding that hybrid immunity—the combination of prior infection and vaccination—was associated with a slightly lower risk of testing positive for Covid. But those with hybrid immunity had a similar low rate of hospitalization (3 per 10,000) to those with natural immunity alone. In other words, vaccinating people who had already had Covid didn’t significantly reduce the risk of hospitalization.

Apology my rear end, make it a check with at least 6 zeroes for every person FIRED
Good to see the Wall Street Journal getting its head out of its hind-quarters.
And those of us who get it shouldn’t be required to submit to further testing either! My employer gave me some load of crap on why I still need to test....because of all those other variants!!!!!
I got Omicron in late December. I want to go to Canada in late July. Therefore I’m carefully planning my required booster for travel to Canada after 90 days (some think that’s how long it lasts) of natural immunity has expired, but within guidelines for travel.
I don’t want to mix a booster shot with existing natural immunity. Seems not a good idea.
But meanwhile every Cal State and UC student, even if they all got covid over winter break, has to be boosted IMMEDIATELY AFTER COVID therefore, before spring break starts.
Any particular reason you’re bypassing FR’s excerpting guidelines and the copyright law?
This article is published in the OpEd section of the WSJ which is still fairly conservative. The rest of the paper, not at all.
And a $150,000 bonus.
Any terminated employee who is asked to return to work by such tyrants should consider the employer does not deserve any respect and the employee should reject the offer OUTRIGHT.
I say: “Do everything possible to put the tyrants out of business.”
Any employer who mercilessly put me out on the street would never see me come back BUT I would demand the employer pay me for the calloused disrespect shown me.
I can’t imagine any employer would apologize for firing you because it would be an admission they badly and unfairly mistreated you.
Sue their a** off!
