Republicans cannot afford to do what they have largely always done with a Senate majority: set it on a shelf, polish it, and admire it from afar.
The 2022 agenda for House Republicans may be out of touch with the current political moment, but at least they can say they’re trying. Over on the other side of the Capitol, Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., the leader of the Senate’s Republican conference, has announced he’s not even putting out an agenda for 2022.
According to reporting by Axios last month, McConnell told a room full of donors, lobbyists, and in-cycle senators that he would not be putting forward an agenda outlining the priorities for his conference should Senate Republicans regain a majority in 2022. When asked by CNN last week what the GOP agenda would be in a potential majority, McConnell responded, “That is a very good question and I’ll let you know when we take it back.” He went on, “This midterm election will be a report card on the performance of this entire Democratic government, the president, the House, and the Senate.”
In other words, McConnell and GOP senators seem prepared to run solely on a platform detailing how bad the other guy is, and that scrupulously and intentionally avoids discussing what they intend to do about it.

Repubs see a Senate majority as a pillow they can sleep on.
The collectivists see it as a sawzall to destroy everything.
I have been absolutely LIED to by the GOP-e for decades now, “if only we can take the house and senate” I AM DONE what these bastards did to Trump was my VERY LAST STRAW!!
Will you be backing Biden or Bernie?
No he won't, like Brandon said, is Mitch FOR anything (other than enriching himself)
If the republicans do nothing then that will guarentee the presidency will be retained by the communists and this country ceases to exist.
“Republicans cannot afford to do what they have largely always done with a Senate majority: set it on a shelf, polish it, and admire it from afar.”
About all they will be able to do for the next two years is prevent bad stuff from being passed.
Anything good that congress passes will be vetoed by Biden.
If the Republicans take the House and Senate next year (and they should), then they can pass a whole passel of bills (and they should). But what president will sign them into law? They can also investigate the hell out of a whole passel of crooked democrats (and they should), but whose DOJ will prosecute?
But the new Republican majority can definitely stop the democrats from further advancing their new green deal socialist agenda (and they should). And they should be able to stop and roll back a whole bunch of obviously unconstitutional crap by using the newly conservative courts (thanks to President Trump).
If we fail to take the house and senate next year and the presidency in 24, we can kiss America goodbye.
Well said!
Hmmm, the MAGANMR party.
Where is Newt when we need him?
Why can’t they afford to do that?
Panic porn. RINOs, not Republicans. RINOs are Democrats in all but name (DIABN, crappy acronym, sorry).
Who are they surrendering to?
They’re the same as the Democrats. No need to surrender to one’s fellow travelers after all.
Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States. The “Repubs” are collectivists. Have been for the past 70 years, back when RINOs were known as “New Republicans”.

I’ve been saying that for decades. How nice it would be if the govt stopped trying to fix things.
Hi!
Well, McConnell could take a lesson from Newt
(McCOnnell’s not even having any objectives other than holding on to his Senate leadership position... does nothing for the country... nor does it inspire anybody to donate, work for, or vote for R candidates)
Well, he sure does fight against any GOP candidate with even a hint of being Constitution-minded.
I recall all the cheers for Mitch when he denied Merrick Garland a seat on the Supreme Court. And then he turns around and votes to confirm this same Garland as AG, and look at all the harm Garland’s done in that position.
Not much you can do as long as Biden is president. Only if we get veto proof can we maybe get things done. Good luck.
Nothing would get done with “veto-proof” majorities either. That was the GOP-e’s excuse last time, even though there were many things they could have done. And what excuse did they have during the first two years of Trump’s presidency?
