Republicans Plan To Win Back The Senate, Then Do Nothing, Per Usual

Republicans cannot afford to do what they have largely always done with a Senate majority: set it on a shelf, polish it, and admire it from afar.

The 2022 agenda for House Republicans may be out of touch with the current political moment, but at least they can say they’re trying. Over on the other side of the Capitol, Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., the leader of the Senate’s Republican conference, has announced he’s not even putting out an agenda for 2022.

According to reporting by Axios last month, McConnell told a room full of donors, lobbyists, and in-cycle senators that he would not be putting forward an agenda outlining the priorities for his conference should Senate Republicans regain a majority in 2022. When asked by CNN last week what the GOP agenda would be in a potential majority, McConnell responded, “That is a very good question and I’ll let you know when we take it back.” He went on, “This midterm election will be a report card on the performance of this entire Democratic government, the president, the House, and the Senate.”

In other words, McConnell and GOP senators seem prepared to run solely on a platform detailing how bad the other guy is, and that scrupulously and intentionally avoids discussing what they intend to do about it.

Pols, especially Repubs "point with pride and view with alarm". That is pretty much their playbook.

Doing nothing would be great as compared to what the democrats are trying to do.

Truth in advertising - they won't do anything with the majority if they get it. They know it, we know it. Just the lesser of two evils.

NMR’s........NO MORE RINO’s!! Primary every one of them....support their opponents (hopefully MAGA candidates) and donate. The Senate/House re election committees and the RNC will give money to the status quo and you can bet on that.

The GOPe arm of the UniParty will ALWAYS protect the UniParty. It’s what UniParty hacks do.
How many times have we seen them snatch communist defeat from the jaws of victory? How many times? It’s very telling.
McConnell and his merry band of UniParty hacks need to be gone.

I have no faith in the GOP leadership. They’ll be business as usual.

I’m OK with a Rat Senate. It may be better. Repukes will have to pretend to be against them and can easily gum up the works. As long as the Repukes hold the house I don’t care who holds the Senate at this point. Getting rid of certain Repuke Senators is a higher priority. Also, support Dino Senators in Senate Primaries so that the Repukes don’t have a bunch of fakers in the party and the Rats can be pushed away from the left.

Sounds about right.

But at this point, I'd take "nothing" over the radical leftist agenda that the Democrats are trying to ram through.

Winning back the House and Senate does nothing with Biden still there.

Republicans doing nothing is better than Democrats doing anything.
That said, it would behoove the ‘Pubbies to understand that the Democrats are their enemies, not their colleagues, and proceed accordingly.

I’m fine with the government doing nothing. We have seen how the government “helps” these last 2 years.

They’ll spend money like the Bluest of Blue State Democrats, and they’ll begin building (or) buying their retirement estates here and abroad.

While it’s not likely to get passed, having a list of key items to push would keep the Democrats off balance and set the stage for 2024. If the GOP sits back in the interim, the media will write the narrative. And they will blame the GOP for making things worse.
