BRUSSELS (AP) — The Pentagon said Monday that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has put up to 8,500 troops on heightened alert, so they will be prepared to deploy if needed to reassure NATO allies in the face of ongoing Russian aggression on the border of Ukraine.
Pentagon press secretary John Kirby said no final decisions have been made on deployments. He said the order is about ensuring that the U.S. is ready to respond if NATO decides to deploy its response force.
“What this is about is reassurance to our NATO allies,” Kirby said.

A failed administration needs a distraction. Using the military this way is treasonous.

“What this is about is reassurance to our NATO allies,” Kirby said. After the last 12 months, having a Chinese fire drill when there is no threat is "reassurance to our NATO allies"?

Not sure how 8,500 lightly armed troops are reassurance against 100,000 Russian ones with planes and tanks and mortars and stuff.

Why not, it’s the Biden way!

in the face of ongoing Russian aggression>>>>>>>
What Russian Agression? All Putin is doing is driving armoured vehicles and tanks around inside Russia. The vehicle parks are all organized in neat checkerboards, a sitting duck target for a 2 hour complete destruction by airial bombing. If Putin were going to attack Ukraine, those vehicle parks would be dispersed and they all would be camoflaged.
Again Joe wants a little shooting war to try and garner a raise in his sordid approval rating.
It is a major grift.

Only those that want to be stooges for Biden would agree to go on this mission. Better court marshalled than risking one’s life for this.

What’s funny is that when Reagan met Gorbachev in Rejkjavik, the Hawks felt betrayed, called Reagan a “sellout”.

As I said on another thread, I’m wondering if this Russian threat is being overhyped to give Biden the appearance of a win in a situation where there was no real threat to begin with. If nothing happens, I can just hear Biden tooting his horn about how he masterly avoided war by being “tough on Putin.”

What’s funny is this is even less than Obama did. The 173rd Airborne Brigade is based in Europe and has deployed many times to the Baltics and Ukraine. There’s little need to put troops “on alert.” This political theater and fodder for Fake News. Nothing more.

Remember how we threw a sh*tfit when the Russkies marched into Cuba?
Well, the best use for the Ukraine is as a buffer state between the West and Russia. NATO troops on Russia’s border? It’s nuts - and a recipe for nothing but bad.
