British Intelligence Claims Moscow Planning to Install Pro-Russian Government in Ukraine

The British government is claiming that the Russian government of Vladimir Putin is planning on executing a coup d’etat against the Ukrainian government headed by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

div class="thm-piano-mop">

The report was unusually specific, naming five former Ukrainian ministers, of whom four served under former President Viktor Yanukovych — the Russian-backed leader driven from office in 2014.

The fifth plotter is a former member of the Ukrainian Parliament named Yevgeniy Murayev. He would be installed as leader of a pro-Russian government in Kyiv.

Would Joe Biden consider a coup a “minor incursion”? It’s unknown how many — if any — Russian troops would be involved in such a coup. Since it’s unlikely the Ukrainian army would lie down and allow Russia to waltz in and take over, any coup attempt is likely to trigger a war.

New York Times:

“The information being released today shines a light on the extent of Russian activity designed to subvert Ukraine, and is an insight into Kremlin thinking,” Liz Truss, Britain’s foreign secretary, said in a statement. “Russia must de-escalate, end its campaigns of aggression and disinformation, and pursue a path of diplomacy.”

The communiqué provided few details about how Russia might go about imposing a new government on Ukraine, and did not say whether such plans were contingent on an invasion by Russian troops. British officials familiar with the situation, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the intent was both to head off the activation of such plans as well as to put Mr. Putin on notice that this plot had been exposed.

Is this more misdirection from Mr. Putin? It’s impossible to be sure, but this feels like the real thing. Putin can sometimes be too clever for his own good

Putin is a fool if he thinks that would work. And he’s no fool.

That by Moscow makes the most sense.
Follows past activities in the “stans”, Belarus, etc.
Why start an expensive war that might spiral out of control when you can get what you want on the cheap.

Why not? They see how well it works in the US.

First they have to learn how to be both pro-Russian while at the same time publicly denounce Russians.

Hey, it seems to be working here.

Will the new guys keep the shady paychecks going to the Biden family and all the other congressional and lobbyist families for doing nothing actually? If so, this will be seen as an acceptable compromise and war averted. Otherwise if the cash spigots are turned off both the dems AND the republicans will be thirsty for blood.

The Brits never installed a pro Brit government in another country, or used disinformation to advance their foreign policy, or broke a treaty, or started a war.... sorry, I’m no friend of Russia, but England saying there might be gambling in the casino and my are we shocked is too much.

I have a modest proposal. We should let the Russians establish an outpost in oh say Ottawa. If we think we should be able to extend NATO up to the border of Russia and beyond, then why not.

Or maybe we could stop listening to the globalists, worry some about what China is doing and give Russia some breathing room

And no, I don't trust the Russians but we should perhaps take a step back and stop goading them.

The Falkland Islands are a half a world away, but the Brits sure seemed anxious to keep a hold of it.
