A Michigan school superintendent debunked the rumor after a video from a December school board meeting resurfaced in which a speaker airs concerns about students who “identify as cats.”
It started with a comment at a school board meeting, which was later amplified by a Michigan state Republican leader, and culminated with a school superintendent explaining that, no, there were no litter boxes on school grounds for students to use if they identified as furries.
“It is unconscionable that this afternoon I am sending this communication,” the superintendent of Midland Public Schools, Michael Sharrow, wrote on Thursday in an email to parents that was also shared on Facebook. “However, our Midland PS stakeholders may be confused about a false message/accusation that has resurfaced this week and is gaining traction in the social media realm.”
The rumor that furries — people who have an interest in anthropomorphic animal characters and sometimes dress up as them — used litter boxes in the school district, which is about two hours northwest of Detroit, appears to have started at a school board session last month, based on a video of the meeting.
A member of the public who spoke at the meeting, Lisa Hansen, says in the video that she was informed by someone the day before the meeting that litter boxes had been added to the “unisex bathrooms” for students who “identify as cats.”

“I was stunned,” Ms. Hansen says in the video. “And today I am equally stunned and a little bit upset — well, not a little bit, a lot of bit upset.

Always remember that in Publik Skoolz, there are NO standards.
Zip.
Zero.
Nada.
So what we feel is a joke will soon be sanctioned by the NEA, which is the most idiotic and bereft of IQ union in the multiverse.
there should be litter boxes in all BLUE STATES
and BLUE CITIES to enable the needy illegals
and needy RINOs and Dems to be all that they can be.
I heard that they had these “furries” at the high school my kids went to. I want to run into one of these morons and when they tell me they identify as a furry I plan to tell them no they should identify as a dumb ass
People will fall for anything on FB
Is the litter box angle to the article to detract from the fact that there are students identifying as furries so as to present and keep that category as legitimate? Often known as a head fake.
Who are they to say that someone is not a cat?
Nice job, NYTimes: link to the board meeting, but without a time, so you have to watch for 90 minutes to find the conversation.
In Wal-Mart a few months ago (near a university) they were selling furry costumes...
Unfortunate use of “snowflakes” as they are beautiful and everyone unique unlike the woke progressive easily triggered.
It’s sad like when the rainbow flag of the 70s was appropriated or the term “woke”.
“Woke” was originally attributed to tea partiers who proclaimed they were awake to the abuses of the government.
That got appropriated as well by the left as a sort of glue to bond the community of idiots together under one banner.
Wasn’t there a teacher fired for refusing to use the correct pronoun for a child that thought he was a cat?
Litterboxes.”Not so…..
Or is it, NOT YET
The fact that some people thought this might be real is a testament to how far our society has crumbled, with all the other crazy stuff liberals espouse like gender identity one could believe the story of a school putting out liter boxes for furries.
Add catnip and scratching posts.
At our granddaughters school in SC, there is a dress code and kids have been given detentions if they don’t comply. However, “furries” have been exempted.
Can't have those kids spraying the walls.
I’ll be concerned...when they start hacking up hairballs.
Well PROVE you have not put litter boxes out for the furries.
PROVE IT.
