Georgia employers are back on their own after court’s vaccine ruling
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | January 14, 2022 | Matt Kempner and Ariel Hart

A spokeswoman for Home Depot, which has more than half a million employees, said the company is “still looking at the ruling.”

The Atlanta-based company hadn’t launched a vaccination requirement, but it had been asking staffers about their vaccination status. Recently, the company pushed back its planned mid-January reopening of corporate offices until Feb. 7 because of the dramatic surge in COVID-19 cases in recent weeks.

Hadn't launched A Vaccination Requirement? Really? In its stores in Florida, Home Depot has posted the following notice to employees:

OSHA's COVID-19 ETS Vax or Test Requirement Effective Feb 9, 2022 You Must Comply With The Required Testing Process Starting As Soon As Feb. 2, 2022 At Least Every 7 Days OR YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO WORK.

In Florida testing is no longer free. As an example, BayCare Urgent Care Clinics now charge $150 out of pocket and are refusing to accept insurance to cover the cost. Additionally, my insurer told me I needed prescriptions from an M.D. for tests 2, 3 and 4 if I was expecting insurance to cover them. The process of testing is burdensome and harsh in the extreme for employees but no one is talking about it. Where is the research showing the possible ill effects from sticking rods up your nasal passages every 7 days forever?

I read yesterday that there has been an upsurge in brain infections, and that they have quietly gone to using just a swab of the lower portion of the nose for their testing. I can’t remember where I read it…may have been a U.K. source.

In any case, it is logical that having something stuck that far up the nose could easily bring infection.

Considering a federal judge just halted the federal worker shot mandate yesterday that nobody saw coming home depot would be exhibiting terrible timing to try to push it.

I work for Home Depot in the Soviet of Washington. We have not had any such postings here or in Oregon.

Actually, I received an email from corporate a day after the ruling saying that corporate was suspending the vax/testing protocols they were planning and for us to follow state guidelines.

$150 for each weekly test. Your HD paycheck may just about cover that...

Interesting. An email from corporate? Are you a managerial employee?

“$150 for each weekly test. Your HD paycheck may just about cover that...”

If the company is going with any kind of mandate they haven’t gamed it out. Any mandate will have an effect on available workers. I can attest that I can’t call either HD or Lowe’s. If I hang on long enough someone will pick up the receiver and drop it down again. I’m guessing it’s because of insufficient staff. I must drive 45 minutes each way just to see if they have something in stock. (The inventory shown online is fanciful. If the online amount is what’s in the store it’s just pure luck.)

Saliva tests don’t risk infection, cost less, and are more accurate, but companies are still using the snot test.

Now why would that be...? 🤔

The wife works a Publix here in Georgia. JUST before the ruling, Publix had posted out their policy to employees and yes, they were ready to comply 1)employees needed to be vaxxed, or 2) employees needed to be tested weekly. Masks were still in the mix.

AFTER the ruling it immediately dropped the planned vax requirement. The local manager there was dreading it because he already couldn’t find anybody willing to work. Faced with short staffing, no employee new hires and then with certain losses because of the vax mandate (my wife was preparing to quit) he was in a really down mood.

The leftover? Masks are still required on employees and I suspect that’s because there’s always some cultist customer coming to him complaining about no mask here or there and they just want to shut them up.

I work for one of the “big” companies in ATL.
Me and about 50 others that I know would have walked had these jerks enforced an illegal mandate.

The way the workforce is looking right now however with the fools they bring in off the streets - I’d say there is a day of reckoning coming for most Corporations.

Laziness and lack of communication doesn’t even begin to describe the worthless 30 and under generation.

Thanks. I have not seen anything like that here in the Western Division. I’m certainly glad this has been suspended. I’m sure it would have only been a minute before they rolled something like that out for all employees.

My TSM told me last month that HD was going to offer a testing option for non-jabbed employees if push came to shove. The TSM also said the company had planned on absorbing the testing costs if we went that way.

Crazy shit.

Am I correct in thinking?

The vaccine mandate was not upheld by the Supreme Court, if you get fired for not getting the vaccine you can still draw unemployment?

A real problem for employers is that the at-home tests are useless unless administered in front of them; they have no idea who took the test. The gubmint seems determined to give out supplies that are fairly useless.

We used them in December because of symptoms in the house and to determine Christmas plans; positive results were confirmed by “real” (and “free”) tests and we kept apart. Those at-home tests were scarce and had limits on buying them when they could be found. Outside of planning travel or something similar (where you don’t want to be turned away at a gate or sicken others if feeling symptoms), there is no reason to use them because there is no treatment if you ARE positive.

I spoke with someone at our local Georgia Kroger. Corporate said a few weeks ago that they would placing a surcharge on the health insurance premium of any unvaxxed employee.

The employee I asked said that it only applied to management types - most of the cashiers and staff are either part-time or get insurance elsewhere. I’ve shopped there for years but since all this began with the masking and rules I’ve found a smaller grocer that I go to more often.

It doesn't show up right away - but it eventually shows up in the bottom line.

Their margin is not that great that they can turn away customers like you.

I’ve noticed many Karens in Kroger giving the “how dare you” stare to me and my family for not masking up.

I’ve yet to ever wear a mask in Kroger.
