Who are the Oath Keepers?
American Thinker.com ^ | January 22, 2022 | John Green

Hearing the Department of Justice describe them, one would think that the Oath Keepers are the scariest bunch of anti-American knuckleheads to come down the pike since the Ku Klux Klan. Given that a bunch of them were just arrested for plotting an insurrection -- that the FBI assured us wasn’t an insurrection -- this is a good time to get to know who they actually are.

Media coverage of the group is sprinkled with terms like “right-wing extremists,” “anti-government extremists,” and “far right militia.” Like any story, the reporting about the Oath Keepers can be spun to support a narrative, or to give an unbiased assessment. The MSM has chosen to go with the narrative. One has to look beyond the scare quotes, and assess what the organization has actually done to get a true sense of its nature.

The Oath Keepers was founded in 2009 by Stewart Rhodes. It is a national, but loosely knit organization, created to resist violations of civil liberties by the government. In 2009, that sounded like conspiracy nut thinking. But since the organization’s founding, we’ve been treated to Crossfire Hurricane, two impeachment show trials, COVID shutdowns, election 2020, and our own government targeting parents as domestic terrorists. What sounded crazy in 2009 sounds prescient in 2022.

Stewart Rhodes is an army veteran (a paratrooper) and a Yale law school graduate. He understands what our founders intended for America, and has served to defend it. He believes that the Democrats see illegal immigration as a way to get more votes -- pay no attention to those cancelled boarder wall contracts. He also believes the Democrats would like to confiscate everyone’s guns -- because that’s exactly what they’ve said.

The OK that AJ interviewed last week claimed that it started with some former law enforcement-type guys here on FR deciding that their working peers needed to be better educated on upholding the Constitution—and so they initially were formed as an educational group.

I of course have no idea if there is truth to any of that and/or if there were feds originally in on its start.

As a Jew and a historian I understand the perennial effort by tyrannical forces to define people who are potentially politically problematic as “enemies of the state.”

I’m an oath keeper.

I was first signed up in Connecticut where it was explained to me that the oath keepers were not a group of people who really did anything. It was a pledge that the oath taken for police and military defense of the constitution invalidated any order given that defied that very constitution.

In other words a cop would never enforce a law that infringed on your rights, even if under duress from a superior.

Connecticut. In the days after Sandy Hook.

The oath keepers there proved themselves totally worthless and milquetoast. Like the CCDL.

The media wants you to think of the oathkeepers as something different so that patriotic Trump deplorables will join and literally dive into a jail cell.

Don’t take that bait.

I am not taking bait. Just reporting on the interview I saw. He described recent changes in the organization that worried him. You can see his interview here from about the 1:47:00 mark, I think it is. Alex talks some about it in the minites before that.

You have been gaslighted about Stuart Rhodes and Oathkeepers. The Deepstate is desperate to get rid of them because if by some chance Trump and the patriots don’t manage to get this country back the Oath keepers are going to be the default option. Their members are mostly former combat vets and LEO’s. They are not an FBI operation. Don’t be stupid. Stop listening to the government propaganda.

There are a couple of hurdles the government will need to overcome in prosecuting that case:

None of the Oath Keepers were armed on January 6 No paramilitary operation was conducted on January 6 The Feds are going to need to answer a couple of tricky questions for the jury. How do they know what the Oath Keepers intended to do? If they intended to conduct an armed insurrection, why didn’t they?

Yes, but remember that they got a murder conviction against Officer Chauvin even though the cause of George Floyd's death was from heart failure caused by massive overdose of street drugs. They might get another "OJ Jury" - one that completely ignores the evidence.
