UPDATE: "In the name of God go", senior Conservative tells Boris Johnson

Former cabinet minister David Davis has joined calls for Boris Johnson to stand down, telling the prime minister: "In the name of God, go."

He said the PM had failed to take responsibility for his actions over lockdown parties in Downing Street.

Mr Davis's remarks came after backbench Tory MP Christian Wakeford defected to Labour, minutes before Prime Minister's Questions began.

The PM batted away repeated calls to quit during the stormy Commons session.

Mr Davis's criticisms and Mr Wakeford's defection come as Mr Johnson is fighting to save his premiership after admitting attending a drinks event in Downing Street during the first lockdown.

So far six Conservative MPs have publicly declared no confidence in the PM, but more are thought to have submitted letters to Sir Graham Brady, chairman of the backbench 1922 committee, who organises Tory leadership contests.

There are claims that the threshold of 54 letters needed to trigger a no-confidence vote and leadership election could soon be reached, but no official word has been given.

Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross, one of those to call for Mr Johnson to quit, said a no-confidence vote was "near" and "getting closer".

There's a febrile atmosphere in Westminster.

Boris is close to the brink.

Lifting coronavirus restrictions may have bought him some time....

“The problem is... the major alternative, the Labor Party is worse!”

Sad but true. Liberals are much worse than even a fake conservative with the brain power of a hamster.

Boris is statist but he's not totalitarian. The Labor Party might be totalitarian. So Boris it is. He sucks. But it could be a lot worse.

Certainly but there doesn’t have to be a general election.

They can just fire Boris and vote for a new leader who then becomes the Prime Minister.

Labor Party need not take control.

They can vote in another Tory Prime Minister.

The Labour Party will NOT form the government whether Johnson resigns or not.
Johnson won the general election just over 2 years ago in which the Conservative Party made a net gain of 48 seats.

Peter Hitchens has pointed this out.

The drama is over the “parties” involving Johnson’s aides.

No one should care.

They should care about their lost freedom over COVID.

If you try to Google that quote, you will see ENDLESS citations of this very incident -- Boris Johnson is attacked, with this quote, and it is referenced to a previous attack against Neville Chamberlain. Google is full of that citation.

In fact, with a little searching, I don't actually see Neville Chamberlain being attacked that way. Perhaps he was. Google says he was. Over and over and over.

But the famous quote is originally:

Oliver Cromwell dismissing the Rump Parliament in 1653: “You have sat too long for any good you have been doing lately ... Depart, I say; and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!”

I think it quite odd that they are currently desperately trying to link Boris Johnson to Neville Chamberlain.

“ So far six Conservative MPs have publicly declared no confidence in the PM, “

. Sorry but these gutless POS remind me of the spineless RINOS and pubs at the hill! Cowards here and abroad! Just an observation.

Invoking the Almighty in response to a cocktail party does not seem cricket to me.

But it’s a nation of non-believers. Except for some of their Muslims, I guess.

Knowing the Brits, that's a good question if they'll find some one better than Boris. He got the county out for the EU which is a huge accomplishment. Regarding covid, Boris recognized that he made mistakes so he is somewhat flexible. Look at Australia. They went to the Deep End.

Is England really thinking of getting rid of their Prime Minister due to some Wine Parties he has hosted in his office?
I know it was during lockdown when everyone else had to do without. That’s wrong, of course, but to sack a leader over this? There are more things going on besides telling fibs about Covid compliance.

Boris Johnson did his job—he got the UK out of the EU.

But, he can’t get the other jobs done. Time for him to go.

The problem is that the UK had strict lockdown measures that the general public and even the Queen had to follow, but that the Prime Minister did not follow at Number 10.

Rules for me, but not for thee will always tend to incense the public.

Unlike Governor Newsome, The Prime Minister can be called to account by his own party via a Leadership challenge in the 1922 Committee.

This is a self inflicted wound...

For those who don’t get the historical reference, “in the name of God, go!” is what Oliver Cromwell said to the Long Parliament.
