San Mateo County workers are scrambling to clean up a mess uncovered by the ABC7 I-Team. More than $10 million worth of precious personal protective equipment-- purchased with your tax dollars - was left outside in the rain.
We all know how important masks, hospital gowns, and other protective gear are, as the COVID pandemic surges yet again.
This seems hard to believe, but top county officials didn't know that thousands of boxes of PPE were moved outside and forgotten for months until the I-Team told them.
Dan Noyes got a tip on a recent rainy day and went straight to the San Mateo County Event Center, Gate 9, and couldn't quite believe what he found. Thousands upon thousands of boxes containing all sorts of brand new personal protective equipment soaking in the rain; stacks of boxes collapsing, too many to count, some breaking open and spilling their contents.

oh but they are sooo sooo sorry .....
Doesn’t matter the masks are all useless POS anyway.
Didn’t Newsome cut some special deals for PPE?
the people who should be held responsible for this will get promoted and get an extra bonus
Something similar happened in Puerto Rico during Trump’s term. There was a very destructive storm in the Atlantic (?). Puerto Rico was quite damaged. Trump authorized the sending of many pallets full of fresh water, canned food and medical supplies.
The Lady Mayor of a town there decided to blame an act of nature on Trump and called him racist. She and like minded people decided to ignore all the help America had made available to her voters. Many trucks full of rescue supplies remained full and unused. The pallets may still be there to this day, for all we know.
I have no doubt you are correct sir, unfortunately.
This is not a mistake. It is government corruption to buy this stuff and not need it. Someone should lose their job, but no one will.
The only surprising thing is that some group of ‘Feral Yutes’ didn’t steal it all as soon as no one was looking.
Maybe if it had been locked up in some freight cars they would have decided it was worth stealing.
Don’t worry, dry all of it out it will work just like new, people won’t even know the difference, no harm no foul
No less effective against Covid than it was.
Except for the reporter who broke the story. If it weren’t for him, no one would have heard about this.
Someone forgot to mark them “holy relics”
Maybe San Mateo officials thought it was a homeless camp?
This link is on the company that made the gowns in the pic...

“KN95 masks and gowns to various hospitals”
Folks, KN95s, which are made to ChiCom standards, not US, are not authorized for use in healthcare settings in the US.
When someone asked me if I’d ordered my “free testing kits”, I thought the same: If someone used it, the maker could be billed, so they’d distribute them pretending they did something.
The masks work better when they are wet.
In the story there is this:

Of course he got money. The crooks always make sure they do.
Meanwhile you lose your job and savings, home, car etc.
That article is from December 8, 2020
How much more has the crooked governor received since?
This incident brings to mind the news report at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 (quickly forgotten because it embarrassed Democrats) that the thousands of ventilators California was provided by the federal government under emergency preparedness funding programs had been disposed of due to the cost of storage and maintenance in storage.
Storage and maintenance costs are paid by the state (as they were state property once turned over by the federal government). So, having other things to spend state funds on (you can guess what), after a time, they decided to dispose of the ventilators. They did this, of course, because no disaster they could foresee would ever require so many ventilators at once.
The one thing the government officials are really good at is getting things wrong.
“So we’re gonna move the PPE supplies outside for (insert reason here) and …let’s go to lunch. We’ll let junior trainee Smith handle getting every thing back inside.”
The amazing thing is the items could have stayed outside if properly protected. All that was required was the purchase of suitably sized, heavy duty, weather-proof tarps and the labor required to emplace them. Millions of dollars in valuable property lost due to lack of initiative and the expense of a few thousand dollars.
Nothing substantive is going to happen. No one is going to be held accountable. There will be the usual statement to the press about how unfortunate the situation is and that steps are being taken to prevent its repetition. Blah, blah, blah.
The government actually thinks people will believe what they’re saying. It would be better if the government acknowledged that people no longer believe them and just stopped issuing explanations at all. At least, that would be honest and would not waste everyone’s time with pretense.
But, words are cheap, especially when you can get them at a volume discount like the government does.
The Bay Area is a 3rd World country.
