Secretary of State Antony Blinken will travel to Ukraine to meet with the country’s president and foreign minister amid heightened tensions between Kyiv and Russia.
Blinken will meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky and Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba on Wednesday “to reinforce the United States’ commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” State Department spokesperson Ned Price said in a statement on Tuesday.
Price noted that Blinken will also discuss "the Department’s efforts to plan for contingencies" with U.S. Embassy’s staff and their families.
Blinken will later travel to Berlin, Germany to meet with Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and hold a meeting with the Transatlantic Quad, which includes the U.S., France, the U.K. and Germany.
Price said that the purpose of the meeting in Germany is “to discuss recent diplomatic engagements with Russia and joint efforts to deter further Russian aggression against Ukraine, including Allies’ and partners’ readiness to impose massive consequences and severe economic costs on Russia.”
“The Secretary’s travel and consultations are part of the diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the tension caused by Russia’s military build-up and continued aggression against Ukraine,” Price added.
A group of lawmakers earlier this week also announced they were traveling to Ukraine to meet with Zelensky and other Ukrainian officials.

A bipartisan group of senators is traveling to Ukraine this week to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky and other Ukrainian officials amid escalating tensions between Kyiv and Moscow.
Sens. Rob Portman (R-Ohio), Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) announced the trip on Monday. They said they are traveling to Ukraine and holding discussions “to reaffirm the U.S.’ commitment to Ukraine, which continues to face an increasingly belligerent Russia.”
Meetings with Zelensky and other Ukrainian officials were slated for Monday, according to a statement from the senators.
Germany really doesn’t want to deal with our stupidity. G & R have a mutual benefit relationship...and they ain’t gonna ruin it over Ukraine.
“G & R have a mutual benefit relationship”
Ah yes, that worked out real well the last time around...
Pun intended.
Is Blinken or the Congressional delegation going to meet with any opposition leaders while they’re in Ukraine, or just the puppet government?
If you think that the pallet of $$$ that Obama gave Iran was big, wait ‘til you see this one!
There’s still something about the neocon obsession with Russia that I am having trouble grasping.
The consequences of a war with Russia, on the Eastern European landmass, over something that’s none of our concern - well, to be blunt, WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD EVEN CONSIDER IT?
Involving Germany to discuss final solutions in eastern front battlefields... depraved. If there is one nation that should have no voice there, it’s the heinies.
When France declared war on Germany in 1939 Germany was France’s #1 trading partner.
It’s 2022.
We will find that MONEY will solve all Ukraine’s problems...and WE are the money tree....as usual.
If trade was an indicator of peaceful relations then explain why Russia invaded Ukrsine.
This is a man who can barely speak a word without stumbling and mumbling. How is he going to accomplish anything over there? Well, forget it - he won’t and the administration knows it. Just one of the sorriest critters in that Cabinet.

So, no one is flying to Afghanistan? Kazakhstan? Libya? Our southern BORDER?
