During Obama’s time in office he removed many, if not most restrictions on Muslims entering the US. Obama’s people are running the government now.
In this case it was a visa waiver matter or ESTA. ESTAs are issued by CBP and not the State Department. CBP would have run a multi agency check. It looks like the Brits didn’t share the information.
