I thought it was Bill Gates who bought all the farmland...

Front man for the CCP?

I wonder if these lands can be used for wind or solar energy boondoggles so that the owners cash in when states or the federal government buys the land for said uses, if you also invest in the infrastructure required for those, then it’s a twofer. As to Canadians owning a lot of agricultural land, might be worth delving into that to see if it’s Chinese Canadians. There are plenty, many have no real ties to the PRC but some do.

Just because they’re buying it now doesn’t mean they’re going to be able to keep it.

It's not like they can take it back to China with them.

The main reason farmland is sough is for investment purposes as Farmland appreciates between 5 and 8% a year.

Nowhere in that article did is state how much farmland is owned by the Chinese. To own a really significant amount would require an investment in the 100’s of Billions of Dollars. Gates only owns 250,000 acres out of Millions upon Million of acres in production in this country. I know a family in Arkansas that owns at least as much as Gates.

Lets see some actual figures on this instead of hysteria.

Do you have any idea the price of Farmland, depending on where you are between $3500 and $7000 and acre. 30,000 acres would set you back about $180,000,000 Million.

I wonder where Free Traitors™ like Bert thought all the money we sent overseas to China and elsewhere was going to go? Did Bert think they would be happy with holding T-bills forever????

I know what I’m about to say is crazy talk to the “free traders (traitors)”, but recent events have shown the utter foolishness of that way of thinking. The U.S. is large enough and has the natural resources needed to become a completely self-contained economy, and MUST begin moving toward doing that as soon as possible. International trade should only occur with friendly nations, and only when such trade is to OUR advantage. Hostile, predatory nations like China should be shunned and frozen out of participation in the U.S. economy.

Believe me, I can already hear the cries of “protectionism”, but that’s not what we’re talking about here. Academic debates over “protectionism”, tariffs, and the like are quaint notions in an age when a hostile enemy nation can utterly destroy our country, either incidentally or intentionally, because our economy depends upon them for nearly EVERYTHING. I don’t care how many Wall Street and globalist business types profit obscenely off of that traitorous arrangement; the fact that their actions have put us in this situation SHOULD expose them to ruin once we go about setting things right.

Our number one priority going forward MUST be protecting our nation by establishing total independence in production of EVERY vital commodity or product. The globalist, “free trade” crowd has sold out this nation for their own 30 pieces of silver, and that treason must be stopped cold.

The Chinese don’t own a lot of US farmland yet. And we shouldn’t let them own much.
They do own Smithfield Foods however. Smithfield processes 17% of all US hogs.
That isn’t comforting.

The Japanese were buying real estate for business reasons.

China is doing it for National Security reasons.

I got on such a rant there I forgot to address the central point of the article. There should be NO foreign ownership of American land or resources, period, especially farmland or other resources that we cannot live without. Any extra affluence that might accrue to a select minority of the population as a result of foreign money pouring in is FAR outweighed by the undue influence over our lives, and even potential for extortion that such arrangements create.

The central principle governing our economy going forward must be that all business activity MUST preserve and enhance the sovereignty and security of the American nation FIRST AND FOREMOST. Any economic activity that only benefits certain individuals or companies. but at clear detriment to national sovereignty and security, must be prohibited. Any “citizen of the world” business titans who don’t like it can forfeit their citizenship, get the hell out of the U.S., and also forfeit the privilege of selling their globalism-produced products back into the U.S. marketplace.

ENOUGH of this traitorous crap.

Good points. Never heard of an attacker farming property in a land they think they’re going to conquer.

But strategically I could see our politicians selling us out on anything / everything to pad their own pockets.

Think we’re more of a threat to ourselves.

They bought every townhouse in Vancouver and still had some money left over.

The Chinese were certainly buying up major parts of Queens. They'd even come knocking on doors of my former Queens co-op apartment, asking if any apartments were for sale there. Any apartment that did come up for sale, there were half a dozen Chinese buyers vying for it; NO other people of any other other persuasion. It was peculiar to see some of these people, who were not professionals like doctors or lawyers, who were dressed in Walmart-wear, offering cash for $250K apartments. It was said that China used local Chinese churches to bankroll these bums behind the scenes. Seeing them, I fully believe that.

You fail to understand that China is and is going to be. Your imagination has led you down a fallacious path.

What you think of as “our money” is business that was directed to China because American industry had ceased to be competative. You fail to realize that in the last 50 years or so, nations that nearly died after WW II resumed some degree of normality. The American advantage of 0, that is 0, competition vanished.

Those of you who live under rocks probably do not realize or understand that American and most all other international business are withdrawing from China before they are thrown out by the Xi efforts to create China Socialism. Xi is going to or infact is, nationalizing everything.

What’s going to really piss you off is that the international efforts in China are not “coming home” but rather in large part might
rating from China to Mexico, Vietnam and Indonesia.

Following the lead of the CCP, good isolationists like you yearn for total return that just isn’t happening

Poppy cock. American businesses were fine but greed made them offshore to eek out a tiny bit more PROFIT at the expense of the American worker. You and your ilk are nothing but scum sucking traitors. Worse than actual rapists.

Let's go Trump!! Once more in '24!!!

You are foolish and ignorant.

When Americans can buy a product at a less expensive price, they will and in fact do.

American business was becoming unable to compete and moved some manufacturing off shore including to China in order to reduce costs. You speak like a true socialist believing the isolation and government can keep businesses alive. You don’t believe in free markets and capitalism because you fundamentally don’t understand them. Your ignorance of business is just profound

You speak of greed meaning profits which are bad and purely socialist in nature

Get ready to get really pissed off........ American business is presently leaving China on a massive scale. It is mostly not coming home to the USA. Industry is moving from to China to Mexico, South Vietnam and Indonesia. That process is presently well underway

By the time there is a President Trump, The China problem you love to rant about will be gone

They should not be given that choice duty free. Tariffs will MAKE,FORCE,COERCE domestic industry produce low cost goods and compete with other domestic sources. Nobody wants the lowest possible price ( I will argue that the US consumer doer not see that price and the middle men eat up any profit gained through global labor arbitrage )if it means shipping jobs, economic viability and long tern survivle overseas. Only greedy hell bound globalist traitors ( like you ) want that.
