How about instead, we ban foreign students from studying STEM in any U.S. college that receives federal funding. Only American students shall be permitted to study STEM in American colleges. Then we'll have plenty of highly skilled and educated Americans. Problem solved!

Why must we import our replacement? No nation does that. Not China, India, or Israel, all of which would improve their own citizens rather than replace them with foreigners.

I've a friend who worked in IT for a Fortune 500 company, back in the late 1980s/1990s. When he started, it wall all Americans. By the late 1990s, it was mostly Russian Jews who'd immigrated from the Soviet Union after the fall of Communism. Also some Pakistanis. Very few people actually born in the U.S.

In my area of Florida, a licensed tradesman can readily make enough to live better than a typical BSEE employed in Silicon Valley.
