2021 was the sixth hottest year on record (Down)
Popular Science ^ | 01 14 2022 | Sara Kiley Watson

According to scientists all across the world, it’s getting hot in here. And by here, they mean the entire planet.

On Thursday, NASA and NOAA released an announcement stating that 2021 was the sixth-hottest year on record, reaching 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit above the average temperature baseline. A few days earlier, the European Unions’s Copernicus Climate Change Service declared 2021 the fifth hottest year on record (NASA reported 2021 tying with 2018, while Copernicus showed 2021 slightly beating out 2018). The year was cooler than record-breaking 2020 and 2016, but the temperatures still were relatively close together. Additionally, heat measurements? in the upper levels of the ocean reached a new high in 2021.

According to NASA administrator Bill Nelson, eight of the top 10 warmest years on our planet occurred in the last decade. “Basically, if you look at the data [of] the decadal averages, we’ve had the warmest decade on record,” NOAA meteorologist Jared Rennie, told Popular Science. “And if we don’t do anything about it, the trends are unfortunately going to keep going up.”

However, the most significant part of the news is that the last eight years are the hottest on record, dating back to the 1880s—stark proof that climate change has already begun making giant impacts on the planet. NASA administrator Bill Nelson called this “an indisputable fact that underscores the need for bold action to safeguard the future of our country—and all of humanity” in a release. Weather patterns still play a role, and the scientists predict that the global temperature slipped down by around 0.06 degrees Fahrenheit due to La Niña conditions.

2021 was world’s 6th-warmest year on record

Take a look at this chart. Notice how they arrange the years from cooler to hottest. Take note that while 2016 is shown as the 'hottest year on record' 2017, 2018, and 2019 were lower.

These scientists can measure the average temperature of the entire globe to 1/100 of a degree? Impressive.

No doubt getting warmer.

40 year ago we got 2 hay cuttings per year on our farm.

Now we get 4 cuttings and we start planting 3 weeks to month earlier than 40 year ago.

That is good for us in the Northern states but the southern states farms are experiencing droughts. They come up with semis and buy our hay.

This is what Popular Science said back in 1980, during the COMING ICE AGE scare!

Changing the weather intentionally or otherwise weather modification..(Earth cooling vs Greenhouse effect)

“Do you suppose we can learn enough, soon enough, to pull off a balancing act with the CO2 blanket saving us from another ice age?”

Not here in Central New York. We only had a few days where it reached 90. Mostly it was in the low to mid 80’s. Four of five years ago we had a much hotter summer...sustained temperatures in the high 90’s.

We had a cooler and wetter than average summer in 2021 in central Texas. I’ll take more of those, please.

Seriously, we only hit three digits maybe twice and that was in late August.

I think they need to be more concerned about the never changing temperature of hell . . . .scorching hot!

If these idiots think global warming is bad, what do they think about global cooling? If the earth was cooling, would they want us to leave our cars running 24/7? Morons all.

In life and in the universe, the only thing that is constant is change.

"Not having them in time order IS disinformation."

Exactly. They were trying to create a false trend of linear warming in the minds of the readers.

This is good news! Our efforts and sacrifices are bearing fruit. We are slowing the pace of climate change and actually reversing it. Five of the last 7 years were hotter than 2021, and 2021 was cooler than 2016. The hockey stick is broken. Celebrate! We beat climate change!

But will they give us even a little taste of victory? Any sense that we are being successful? No, they will double down on doom. We must give more, give up more, have less, use less. They simply can’t afford optimism. Just the same as a global pandemic. We didn’t stop the spread.

Added to the list.

No global warming alarmist responses yet for why CO2 fails to hold the heat down when the shadow of a solar eclipse temporarily drops the outdoor temperature by double digits in some places.

No doubt getting warmer.

The warming has been minimal and consistent with long-term variations. The climate computers models (the basis of the "Hockey Stick Graph") clearly do not match actual reading from satellite and balloon data.

“The warming has been minimal”

The minimal warming has caused great changes in growing seasons in the US.

“the last eight years are the hottest on record, dating back to the 1880s”

So we aren’t all that abnormal?
