Ice storms knocked out nearly half the wind-power generating capacity of Texas on Sunday as a rare deep freeze across the state locked up turbine towers while driving electricity demand to record levels, the state’s grid operator reported.
Responding to a request from Governor Greg Abbott, President Joe Biden granted a federal emergency declaration for all 254 counties in the state on Sunday, authorizing U.S. agencies to coordinate disaster relief from severe weather in Texas.
The winter energy woes in Texas came as bone-chilling cold, combined with snow, sleet and freezing rain, gripped much of the United States from the Pacific Northwest through the Great Plains and into the mid-Atlantic states over the weekend.

.........ahhhh, that old “global warming” at it again....we have about 4 inches of “global warming” in our back yard here in central Texas.....oh, wait....it’s now “climate change”....my bad......
Global warming shuts down Dallas. Rolling blackouts, low gas natural gas pressure. They are telling folks to turn off lights and turn down water heaters.
Wind turbines do not work in the deeps of winter. Wind turbines do not work throughout the summer. But they work great when the weather is in the 70s. Of course, the power is not needed then. Green energy = third world power.
Energy policy under communists mean doing without energy.
Green energy at its finest. God showing man Who is in charge, and it isn’t the humans.
“The Ministry of Peace concerns itself with war, the Ministry of Truth with lies, the Ministry of Love with torture and the Ministry of Plenty with starvation. These contradictions are not accidental, nor do they result from from ordinary hypocrisy: they are deliberate exercises in doublethink”
― George Orwell, 1984
The Department of Energy doesn’t produce any energy................
The homeless problem in Austin may have just been solved.
Yep, I have a 2 foot drift of climate change along the east side of the house.
The “rolling blackout” isn’t rolling away, power is out 4 hours now.
.
Easily fixed.
Just put some electric heaters in those windmills.
I am praying for those suffering in the Texas cold now.
Amen!
Ever see the photos of fossil fuel burning helicopters spraying de-icing fluid on the windmill blades?
Yup High noon temp 11 degrees here in Arlington TX with chill factor of -8 degrees. Believe me folks here are not accustomed to this. For two days now there have been no tire tracks on my street. No dogs barking and the spring birds are gone. Rolling blackouts and worrying about pipes. Next week will be better.
The horror.....the horror.....
We lived off grid here for 5 years and I’d have to climb up the ladder to brush the snow off the solar panels. Fun.
My wife, FL girl that can’t drive in the snow, is supposed to be at work at 9:45pm tonight. Snow all day, -2 degrees. Either I’m driving her in 4-5 hours early while it’s light or she’s not going. That’s if the truck will even start. Barely did yesterday at 7 degrees and today’s high is supposed to be 4 but at noon, it’s still -1 so I don’t think we’re gonna hit 4.
24 mile trip one way on hilly curvy rural roads. I think she’s gonna have to call in stuck. Let someone closer go in.
Supposed to hit 40 this weekend. That will be a big mucky mess.
What do you know......
The joys of going green.
What happened to all that bull s*** about the leftist allegations of, “Global warming”?
Power still out here in east tx, since 7am or so. 12:35 now. Glad I don’t have to depend on an electric central a/c - heat unit. No water, pump is electric. Have about 8 gallon jugs backup. Kitchen faucet dripping, bathtub froze long ago, still no idea if it cracked the pipe or not. Pipe is inside the wall, have to move washing machine to access it but no water on the floor yet. Or ice. I’ll check it before long, bite the bullet and shut valve off if I have to, then I’m guaranteed trouble.
Had to let it drip, if I shut it all off, the pump house and tank can freeze, major plumbing job. If the pump runs now and then, pump shed stays barely above freezing, water in lines keeps moving and won’t freeze. Been working fine for years. But this is the 1st time we’ve seen below 20 degrees in a long time. Got down to 13 before it started to warm up, now they’re saying 5 for tonight. 17 now and windy, and dropping very soon. Weather app says 15 by dark. It’s been consistently around 3 to 5 degrees below wharever it says all yesterday and today. 17 now, app says 21. Half inch of snow and ice, expecting more by 4pm.
I’m really beginning to dislike global warming...
Are Tesla drivers allowed to charge their vehicles?
Can’t wait to see what happens when they add power demand from electric cars to a future supply shutdown like this.
