Russia Won't Rule Out Military Deployment to Cuba, Venezuela

Russia on Thursday sharply raised the stakes in its dispute with the West over Ukraine, with a top diplomat refusing to rule out a Russian military deployment to Cuba and Venezuela if tensions with the United States mount.

Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, who led the Russian delegation in Monday’s talks with the U.S. in Geneva, said he could “neither confirm nor exclude” the possibility of Russia sending military assets to Cuba and Venezuela if the talks fail and U.S. pressure on Russia mounts.

The Russia-U.S. negotiations in Geneva and a subsequent NATO-Russia meeting failed to narrow the gap on Moscow’s security demands amid a buildup of Russian troops near Ukraine. While Moscow demanded a halt to NATO expansion, Washington and its allies firmly rejected that as a nonstarter.

Well we’re in their backyard, why wouldn’t they do the same?

Mostly because they don't/didn't have the economic power, military organization or political will to do so.

But I think that's changing and Russia will definitely try to make exactly that point.

Weakness invites aggression.

**************

Always has, always will.

Our adversaries around the world are watching this window of opportunity open up for them. Sooner or later they will act.

Because we have something called The Monroe Doctrine.

The Russians tried once to set up bases in this hemisphere and they were confronted and left. When we have a real, patriotic America First President again, I am certain he will tell Putin and Xi what the Monroe Doctrine is and how it is still going to be enforced.

So we need to know Hunter’s connection to Cuba and Venezuela. Putin seems to be targeting The Big Guy’s money laundering schemes.

The other bigger issue is, what the heck does the US even stand for anymore?

So should not Russia have their own version of it, with regards to some of the former Soviet Republics?

Why can’t we just simply stay out of each others backyards?

That would obviously not be a good thing. If nothing else, it would be very damaging to American prestige.

But here’s the thing. We had no problem putting troops in Norway and in Turkey. Both of those nations bordered the old Soviet Union. So we really can’t take the moral high ground now.

Some folks refer to the Monroe Doctrine. But the Monroe Doctrine is not a treaty that Russia or anyone else must abide by. It’s only as good as the current president is.

Trump was strong enough (and clever enough) to make the Monroe Doctrine stick. But now? Well, you know what we’ve got now.

Perhaps we should back off Ukrainian and Kazakhstan?

This brings our interference directly home.

Higher oil and gas prices=a wealthier Russia.

Whatever could have happened one year ago to cause the large increase in the price of petroleum prices? /sarc

Putin is saying, in effect, what is good for the goose is good for the gander. The US is arming Ukraine, Russia will do the same in Cuba and Venezuela.
