Because we have something called The Monroe Doctrine.
The Russians tried once to set up bases in this hemisphere and they were confronted and left. When we have a real, patriotic America First President again, I am certain he will tell Putin and Xi what the Monroe Doctrine is and how it is still going to be enforced.
So should not Russia have their own version of it, with regards to some of the former Soviet Republics?
Why can’t we just simply stay out of each others backyards?
Perhaps we should have been paying closer attention to all of Latin America over the past decades. Hard to do when there were so many banana republics that we supported for gringo business purposes. Nicaragua and Chile elected socialists. A siren call to those with nothing. It takes a strongman to rule down there.
You mean that early 19th century foreign policy concept that the Americas (new world) and Europe (old world) should not interfere in each others business?
Cool story bro...
The Monroe doctrine? That’s been a dead letter for a long time. Everyone forgets that other half of the Monroe doctrine, that WE would stay out of European affairs.
That doctrine was you stay out of our yard, and we stay outta yours.
The US government and military running around deep in Eastern Ukraine is not part of the Monroe doctrine.
This can’t wait three years. Either Foe Jiden mans up immediately in response, or whatever presence Putin graces the Western Hemisphere with will remain. They are still in Syria since Obama. Trump didn’t mix it up over that. He was going after ISIS, he did a surgical strike over the use of chemical weapons, he cut some Salami in Iraq, destroyed the ISIS Caliphate, but he did not change the status quo he inherited vis a vis Russia already being in Syria.
