Flags in Florida will fly at half-staff to honor the late U.S. Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada, Gov. Ron DeSantis' office announced Wednesday evening.
Reid, a Democrat, had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in early 2018. He died Dec. 28 at the age of 82.
Reid "will be remembered for the way he demonstrated immense grit and determination in his personal life and political career," DeSantis' office said in a statement.

I don’t care for the ongoing trend of politicians treating themselves like national heroes. They are among the least worthy of it.
I don't like it as well, they are not royalty. This lying in state BS irks me just as naming things after them after WE paid for it with OUR tax money.
As DeSantis says: “If he is getting flak, he must be right over the target.”
Thus far, DeSantis has done an excellent job of governing the third largest state.
What we need is for the other 31 GOP Governors to stop cowering and start following DeSantis lead.
Looking nationally, this would assuage many Nevadans.
DeSantis doing the right thing.
Don’t expect the same from a Dem upon the death of a Republican.

Sometimes the act of departing from what some would see as ‘the thing to do’ is more than the trouble it would be to just go through the motions. Can’t upset all the double-voting Jewish snowbirds....

It may well be that DeSantis is on the conservative side of “establishment”, but he’s still much better than most of the other governors.

When Obummer had the flags flown at half mast for Nelson Mandela, I realized that it is a hollow gesture, political and now meaningless.
He doesn’t have their support anyway.

Harry Reid was a POS. Now he’s dead. That should be the end of the story.
