Ron DeSantis just gave his first 2024 speech
CNN ^ | January 12, 2022 | Chris Cillizza

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is widely being discussed as a potential 2024 candidate for Republicans -- and he's doing little to knock down that chatter. And, his state of the state speech on Tuesday gave us all a preview of how DeSantis would run if he runs.

"Florida has become the escape hatch for those chafing under authoritarian, arbitrary and seemingly never-ending mandates and restrictions," DeSantis said, adding that Florida was now "the freest state in these United States."

DeSantis repeatedly touted his willingness to buck so-called conventional wisdom during his first term -- particularly when it came to dealing with the spread of Covid-19 in his state. DeSantis made mention of his decision to re-open Florida schools fully in the fall of 2020.

"We were right and they were wrong," DeSantis said, in what could easily double for a presidential campaign if/when he runs.

And, make no mistake: What DeSantis was doing in his speech was positioning himself for just such a run. Which feels like a natural next step from the first three years of DeSantis' time as governor; he has used his position to not only differentiate himself on Covid-19 mandates (and masking) but play directly into the arms of the Donald Trump base of the party -- on everything from "woke" culture in education to restrictive voting rights in the state.

Trump is taking notice of DeSantis' jockeying.

I’d like to see Trump jail the swamp creatures first.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He has to stop endorsing them first.
For 2022, Amnesty Senator Rubio, Porkulus II voting Grassley and Crapo, also Boozman, Moran and Scott.
We will never Make America Great Again by re-electing Mitch’s bitches.
The Trump cross over appeal doesn’t translate to the other Repuke politicians.
This is a reality check for a lot of people on FR who aren't big fans of Trump:
1. He gets a lot of support from independents and Democrats that does not necessarily translate to support for other GOP candidates.
2. Along those lines ... how many states did Trump lose in 2020 that DeSantis would win in 2024? Enough to win a presidential election? I'm not so sure about that.
“Trump/DeSantis ticket ok by me.
Trump would only be one term.”
I fully agree.
See Post #20. Military service in Iraq is a liability for a lot of us here on FR.
In 2016 he came out with a lot of rhetoric against Ted Cruz.
He was worse against Scott Walker, using leftist talking points against him. Walker didn't respond effectively, so it is part of the process, but those of us who had Walker for a governor didn't appreciate the approach.
DeSantis is relatively young. He has many chances to run for president. Trump only has one last chance.
DeSantis does not wrecklessly make enemies, one thing that Trump is prone to do.
Because they are residents of the same state, they can’t run on the same ticket.
1. That's simply not true.
2. While it does present some limitations, there is no reason why Donald Trump couldn't change his place of residency to any other state in the U.S. where he owns properties.
If they are then residents of the same state, they cannot run on the same ticket.
Is that better?
I like DeSantis. Temperate, metered, solid conservative.
Service in the military is generally honorable, whether the leaders of a nation use the military in good wars or bad. Do you hold the same low opinion of men who fought in Vietnam, another unpopular war, badly waged by evil politicians and incompetent generals? Do you side with the leftist scum who spit on our returning soldiers?
In the new military of the leftist scum demokkkrats, that’s changing, especially at the level of flag officers. But for someone who received his commission in 2004, and was honorably discharged, his military service is generally a credit to him.
“I like Trump, but DeSantis is better.”
Perhaps, but what about the dozens of women he abused and, in some cases, (allegedly) raped? How does he explain that away?
Oh you haven’t heard about this? Neither have I, but we all will, as that is that is the Democrat playbook...they’ll find some chicks willing to make up stories and DeSantis will be a serial rapist by November, 2024.
And that’s why I like Trump - they’ve already used their best weapon on Trump, and they cannot use it again (they can try, but it will be futile).
Article II
Section 1
Clause 3
Tell me one ticket in which they were from the same state.
I could be reading it wrong.
Yeah, Trump for four years, then DeSantis for eight years.
Sounds good to me.
My answer is, “Hey, if Brandon can molest little girl’s, including his daughter, DeSantis can bang the maid.”
All the bluff.
Trump needs to get over his own ego. I like Trump. Best pro-American president of my lifetime for certain.
That said, he can be very sophomoric and intemperate. Resorting to name calling and petty insults all the while doing the whole..me me me, I, I, I stuff.
Trump should take credit for operation warp speed, he deserves it, but he should also acknowledge the so called vaccines are not meeting expectations.
