Gov. Ron DeSantis Delivers State of the State: Florida Is ‘America’s Liberty Outpost’
Breitbart ^ | 11 Jan 2022 | HANNAH BLEAU

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) delivered Florida’s State of the State address on Tuesday, touting the Sunshine State as an oasis for freedom and “America’s liberty outpost” in a nation of lockdown enthusiasts who seek control through what the governor described as a “biomedical security state that curtails liberty, ruins livelihoods, and divides society.”

Addressing a joint session of the legislature in Tallahassee, he emphasized the freedom Floridians enjoy.

“Together we have made Florida the freest state in these United States,” DeSantis said as he drew a stark contrast between his state and those whose leaders have “consigned the people’s rights to the graveyard” over the past two years.

All the while, Florida has stood as “freedom’s vanguard,” protecting the rights of individuals and businesses by fighting unconstitutional mandates and ensuring children have the opportunity to thrive.

“Florida has become the escape hatch for those chafing under authoritarian, arbitrary and seemingly never-ending mandates and restrictions,” DeSantis said, noting that the rules and regulations that have the country under a spell are “grounded more in blind adherence to Faucian declarations than they are in the constitutional traditions that are the foundation of free nations.”

IF Florida is somehow America’s “Liberty Outpost” - then why is the state lagging so far behind a LOT of other states in 2A protections? I mean - not only does FL still require a permit to possess a firearm (CHCL), but don’t even recognize several state permits.

A state that really cares about liberty would have already implemented “Constitutional Carry”...

I mean - my own state of Arkansas doesn’t require me to carry a permission slip to carry concealed or openly. In fact, the way the law is written - a permit actually ADDS restrictions in many ways to where you can be in possession of a firearm!

Meanwhile, while my own state doesn’t encumber me with a permission slip, if I travel to Florida (parts of which are arguably significantly more dangerous than most of Arkansas), I have to have a permission slip.

I’m sorry but we don’t need a “permit” to own a firearm. Where you got your info I don’t know. And if you live in Florida and still needed to get a “permit”, it’s a concealed carry one. Now we passed a background check but that’s it.

Haven’t heard anything about Biden and his state of the union speech. Guessing he will use covid to present some prerecorded cut and paste video. He is not capable of an actual hour long speech. He also has nothing to brag about.

Don’t need a permit to own a firearm if you live in Florida.

You didn’t read my post. Go back and RE-READ it before trying to puff your chest and argue.

But the rest of your post only validates the lack of liberty. How lovely. The 2A says:

“... the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

But the Florida interpretation (and apparently yours) reads “People may be granted permission to bear keep and bear arms after a background check, paperwork, and paying fees to the government (aka - a tax to exercise a right? I’m pretty sure that ws struck down by the SCOTUS a long time ago... but my how so many selectively apply that to voting rights).

Anyway - like I said - go back an re-read my post. Notice I said to BEAR Aka - carry concealed or openly) without a permission slip. I stick by that. 21 states have seen fit to actually recognize the Constitution and not restrict law-abiding citizens from exercising their rights (and not automatically assuming them to be criminals simply for possessing a firearm).

“FL still require a permit to possess a firearm (CHCL)” so you consider getting a background check as a “permit”? I think that is basically the same in most states and is a good thing. I’m sorry but when we passed the background they didn’t give us a “permit”, they just gave us the gun. And we can carry in our vehicle as long as there is a 2-step to produce and fire is followed. We have no “permit” for that. You used the word “possess” not “concealed”.

If you don’t have a criminal record, you can get a photo ID concealed carry permit for a nominal fee that’s good for seven? years. They are less trouble to acquire than a driver license. I have one and usually use it when I go out. A couple of years ago I saw a lady openly carrying go into a store.

The local Miami media is having conniptions because the Republican legislature is proposing a halt to the murder of unborn babies at 15 weeks or older.

That is the main concern of the media and the Democrat party (redundant) in Miami.

Hi.

And Brenda Snipes is no longer head of elections in PBC.

That’s a BIG plus for eliminating fraud.
