Senate Republicans are threatening they will attempt a takeover of the Senate agenda by forcing votes on issues ranging from the Keystone XL pipeline to abortion rules to a U.S-Mexico border wall if Democrats weaken the filibuster.
Republicans are also looking at smaller bills such as a proposal to prohibit the administration from imposing a fracking ban by executive order, a prohibition on the IRS implementing new reporting on banks to disclose individuals’ banking activity and mandatory detention for illegal immigrants who commit serious crimes.

Sounds like the fix is in and they are going to try and change the subject.
They should have done that last January ...
Why wait for Dem action to do something? If that’s a challenge for them (Dems), just do it! Feckless GOP
Another Alexander Bolton hit piece on the GOP.
Why don’t they always do that?
I don’t think you understand. The Dems are threatening to eliminate the filibuster and the GOP is threatening to force other legislation that has less support from the full Dem Senate through under the rule change. The question is will Manchin allow the rule change?
No one asks
Why are they not submitting these bills as a matter of course?
Why not do this? Are they not good bills? Is fighting the democrats just boiled down to empty threats?
Oh i forgot, this is all uniparty kabuki theater...
The republicans suck just as much as the democrats. They will speak and postures and in the end do nothing. They will then lie to their constituents about how they tried and they morons will vote them back in. I am getting old and have observed this my entire life. Unless we change it, its not changing.
The problem is that you can't make it last. This is all about gaming the rules, and if the GOP did that, the Democrats could change those rules too.just as easily and quickly as they change the filibuster.
Bottom line is that if they hang together, the majority in either chamber of Congress can make the minority completely powerless.
It’s not just Manchin. Sinema is also reportedly a “hard” no to the rule change.
Rumor is that there was a call to discuss among the Dem caucus, and Sinema ended the call with a very strong “bleep you” attitude. Plus, she’s repeatedly said she will under no circumstance eliminate the filibuster.
And so far, she’s been good to her word when she digs in on things like this..
I’m right with you. What was the last bad law that the GOP reversed? I can’t remember one. But they STILL fund the programs they claim to be against.
Not only empty threats, but stuff they should have been doing out of the gate.
I wouldn’t depend on McConnell to follow through on anything that takes any courage.
The reason they did not do it last Jan is that back then any one Dem could block their proposals. If Schumer eliminates the filibuster then there are a number of gop bills that would potentially become viable. They would need to convince just one Dem to vote with them. And the filibuster would not stop it.
The way I understood it, the GOP (being the minority party), can’t force votes on ANYTHING.
Again, the point is that a majority can legally set the Senate rules however they want them to be. So as soon as the GOP minority decides to use the rules to gum up the works to stop the Senate, a Dem majority could simply vote to change all those rules. So it’s only good as a last gasp nuke option, and even then is disarmed as soon as the majority votes for new rules.
The only way the Republicans would actually do this is if medical science perfects spinal and testicular transplants.
They may be able to do so under some rules, but then those rules could be changed immediately if a.majority voted for that change.
