Perhaps the Right was a little hasty with its condemnations of South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem.
Early in 2021, Noem proposed legislation that would require all athletic contests in the state to be designated as male, female, and both, and that only those born female would be allowed to compete in girls’ sports.
The proposal ran into some headwinds — the NCAA was making noises about canceling all events in any state that enacted such a ban, and others raised concerns about the reporting requirements and how it would be determined whether or not athletes had taken anabolic steroids in the previous year.
Noem attempted a “style and form revision” — in South Dakota, governors can make minor, technical revisions to legislation after it has passed, but the new version must be approved by the Legislature. But since Noem had held off on extending the ban on trans athletes to colleges, the Legislature rejected her changes, 67-2.
At that point, Noem vetoed the legislation before her, enacted what she could through executive order, and vowed to return to the issue. For this, she was excoriated as a sellout who lacked the guts to take her place at the top of 2024 or 2028 presidential contenders.
Tucker Carlson pummeled her on his show: “So you’re saying the NCAA threatened you and you don’t think you can win that fight? They said, ‘If you sign this, we won’t allow girls in South

They are doing something.
Their parents are doing something.
An anonymous teammate of Thomas spoke to the website OutKick, claiming most members of the team have expressed displeasure over the situation to their coach, Mike Schnur.
Before I waste my time checking out the others, can you tell me if any of these teammates are identified BY NAME?
Women shouldn’t be allowed to hold office nor vote.
They have ruined the US.
I don't care enough right now to grave dig that original law to see if there was actually a problem. But she is apparently pushing this one, so I'll wait until the dust settles to see if she was right.
And in the case of the UPenn swimmers, the team is comprised entirely of ADULTS.
Maybe I’m “old school” when it comes to these things, but when I was that age I frankly would have been embarrassed to have my parents fight my battles for me while I “protested” in anonymity.
So has diversity.
There’s a strong correlation between the two.
“But since Noem had held off on extending the ban on trans athletes to colleges, the Legislature rejected her changes, 67-2.”
Didn’t take long for THE LIES to begin. They legislature rejected her changes (gutting) mainly because she ELIMINATED all of the enforcement provisions. Basically if you were a girl getting screwed in athletics, you could ‘write a letter to the editor’, but nothing more.
Noem, Cruz, making some big mistakes.
“The Establishment wants either Kristi McRomBush or Nikki McRomBush to be the 2024 nominee. But they’ve both outed themselves.”
Agree, and good summary. It’s FAR BETTER for them to out themselves (usually due to crappy ‘advisers’) early, so we don’t waste time on them.
This attempt to shove these women on us is PATHETIC (they’ll do about as good as Jeb), but it is instructive as to how the GOP leadership spends its time and money.
“I didn’t look at the allegedly problematic provisions of the first law in any detail. However, I will say that judging a law by its intent, rather than by the actual language, is a common mistake.”
I read some articles on it. It was carefully written to mimic laws in other states, by people who litigate this for a living. As to the courts, Trump left this country with very conservative Appellate Courts (at least outside of the solid blue areas), predicting a loss on this type of issue in those courts is simply a lie.
“Maybe I’m “old school” when it comes to these things, but when I was that age I frankly would have been embarrassed to have my parents fight my battles for me while I “protested” in anonymity.”
Do you realize that they can (and likely will) get EXPELLED for complaining. That’s the atmosphere they have to live in.
And while it may be easy for us, in our older ages, to tell these gals to learn welding or something, I suspect that their priority is to complete their studies.
Tell the schools and universities they will be punished if they retaliate against the girls.
Thanks for posting that was a much more balanced write up and covers a lot of what I’ve tried to convey when the erroneous hit pieces were published. 👍🏻
1. They aren't going to UPenn on athletic scholarships, so quitting the team is always a minimally defiant option that doesn't cost a damn thing.
2. If they aren't willing to stand up now in an environment where they are likely paying tens of thousands of dollars a year to be there, then they are never going to stand up to any kind of humiliation or abuse in the future.
This is how "snowflakes" are made. And they have plenty of enablers right here on a website called FreeRepublic, of all places.
Pathetic ... really.
“1. They aren’t going to UPenn on athletic scholarships, so quitting the team is always a minimally defiant option that doesn’t cost a damn thing. “
I never claimed they got a free ride.
But have you ever been EXPELLED from college? I haven’t (came closer than I should have though) - it doesn’t sound like fun, including trying to explain it to whatever college(s) you then apply to.
If people can't stand up for themselves, then they deserve all the abuse they get heaped on them.
This is why I really don't GAF about these mutants competing as "women" in these women's sports.
P.S. — You still haven’t explained why quitting the team isn’t a viable option for any of these UPenn athletes.
“P.S. — You still haven’t explained why quitting the team isn’t a viable option for any of these UPenn athletes.”
You haven’t asked, but that’s a valid question and probably their best option, as they can at least stay enrolled if they play it right, as in the below:
REPORTER: Why are all of you resigning from the Swim Team at once?
ANSWER: Because UPenn is an academically challenging institution and it is not possible for us to both compete at this level, while spending the necessary time needed to pursue our studies effectively, which is, obviously, our main reason we are here.
