Op-ed: Sen. Dick Durbin: Federal law is the missing link in solving Chicago’s gun violence
Chicago Tribune ^ | 8 jan 2022 | dick durbin

--(snip)--

"The tsunami of illicit firearms in Chicago and across America includes too many guns bought from gun dealers in straw purchases. Felons who cannot pass background checks use others with clean records to make these straw purchases. This is the deception reportedly used to buy the gun that killed Officer Ella French. It’s time to prosecute this reckless conduct aggressively. A bipartisan bill I have introduced will move straw purchases from a paperwork offense to a serious federal crime.

Second, the outrageous stories of carjacking across the region demand an intervention. I join Sheriff Tom Dart in appealing to car manufacturers to give us additional tools to cut short these deadly joy rides.

Since when, from time immemorial has any law stopped the crime for which it was written?

How about the government aggressively prosecute the murderer instead of robbing all law abiding citizens of their Constitutional rights?

The Great Society Welfare State and the unwed mothers are the origin of the criminal behavior. Guns are just a tool used by the illegitimate children.

"People who break laws are breaking our laws."

Bingo. Someone should remind Dummy Durbin that murder and carjacking are against the law too. Maybe we should pass more laws against murder and carjacking. That's the ticket.

It takes an intellect the size of Dick Durbin’s to propose the solution to the out-of-control mayhem in Chicago’s West and South Sides is a gun law. Gosh, I wonder why nobody ever thought of that approach before?

No and because it’s Illinois. There was a death penalty until a corrupt republican governor got to it (before he went to prison) some years back.

Exactly. In the Federal system the Great State of Illinois is empowered to solve its own problems.

More federal gun laws? NOPE! They always hide a poison pill in them, like the 1986 Act that outlawed new machine gun sales.

corrupt … governor …(before he went to prison)

You realize here in Illinois you will need to be a little more specific in your description of a corrupt Governor going to prison.

Durbin’s “solutions” contain a tacit admission: Democrat Chicago and Illinois are too corrupt to enforce existing laws, so he wants to punt to the feds. Why isn’t Biden doing anything to prosecute those who break federal firearms laws? Does he want to pass a law that says the givernment must enforce the law? Now that could get interesting...

It is fairly easy for individuals to have “kill switches” put on their cars. Many (most?) police vehicles have such. No need to coerce manufacturers to do anything.

Enforcing the existing criminal laws effectively and consistently, while making criminals do the full time for the actual crimes they commit, and not offering them plea deals on lesser charges, might be a step in the right direction. You can’t control crime if you have a revolving door in your criminal justice system. Prisons are supposed to be punishment. They are also supposed to be a deterrrent, and they are there, to protect the public from those that continually commit crimes. Prisons are also supposed to rehabilitate. The term rehabilitation is defined as returning something to its original, normal state, but you can’t rehabilitate an individual whose life was never normal to begin with. In all likelihood, if their life before prison was of a criminal nature, a career criminal they will remain for the rest of their lives. Most of them have extensive records, having had run-ins with the law since their teen years, and those run-ins haven’t abated, but have only gotten worse. Repeat offenders need to be removed from the streets permanently. It doesn’t matter what color their skin is. They are a pariah, and only life imprisonment or death is the solution to get rid of them once and for all.

More like “This is Faux-y Fauci. Your Ford will stop in 20 seconds until you have uploaded proof of your 17th booster shot.”

It’s not like the government has ever abused powers given it for one purpose to harass and bully the citizenry in order to dampen freedom and assert control, right?

Does Illinois has the death penalty ?

By Juliet Sorensen | May 7, 2021
Ten years ago, Illinois abolished the death penalty. The moment of abolition, effected by then-Governor Pat Quinn with a stroke of the pen, capped years of advocacy by a wide range of stakeholders.May 7, 2021

Thanks to SeekandFind for cracking this simple and complex code re future Covid vaccinations and boosters!

Fauci: ‘Fully Vaccinated’ Definition, Now Includes ‘Up to Date’ Boosters!’

Since there will always be mutations and variants, you will never be considered fully vaccinated until we tell you so, ( if ever ).!

Your safety is not their priority:

Their priority is vaccinating and boosting everyone in America several times. Period!
