It’s the new Dem/media talking point. “If Trump wins in 2024, it’s the end of democracy”.
Yes, we are a representative republic, but the target audience couldn’t tell you the difference. This is all about making Reps look scary, because the Dems have nothing else.

“our democracy is at greater risk today than it was back then.” We all know what he means, though he said "democracy" and not "republic". He is right.
If Schumer gets the John Lewis voting Rights act passed, our country, as we know it, will not be the same, as long as that law is in effect.

How did a protest/ riot that got into our Capitol building for a few hours show that our democracy is fragile?
You can always count on BO to spout BS.

Liberals always call it “their” democracy, meaning not yours, but government’s. Which of course is a non-sequiter.

Don’t be downwind from him when he releases a statement.

Honestly, the whole "we are a republic not a democracy line is getting a bit overblown, and derails a bunch of legitimate discussions. The word "democracy" can have different meanings, and you can have a "direct democracy" where everyone votes on every issue, or a "representative democracy" which is essentially a republic.
The more important response to what Obama says is that if the people don't have the right to elect whomever they wish, then you don't have a democracy or republic period. So it is him saying that we have to stop certain people from getting elected that is fundamentally undemocratic or anti-republican.
The semantic "we're not a democracy" argument just gets old after awhile.
